Hey all,

From what I read I am actually getting some good miles out of my tires. Getting around 5K on the rear and 10K up front. I have had the stock Diablos on my XB12S and 1125CR... and a few other brands. BUT since I put on quite a few miles (12K on my XB which I have had for about a year... and 4K on my 1125... had it about 3 months) the cost of these things is hurting the pocket book. I have heard that the Michelen Pilot 2's could get me about 8~ish on the rear. Any thoughts or recommendations? I am not too concerned with having super sticky tires for high performance... I just need a quality tire for the right price (and more miles). Shinko has a good price but Im worried they may not last long.

I've had really good luck with the Scorpion Syncs on my Uly. I've gotten 6k on the rear and it's got a good amount of life left, I'm hoping to hit 10k rear 15k front. I don't usually ride double but I have put most of the miles on longer trips with full gear packed on. Wet weather stability and traction is really good imho as well...

I have them on my M2 as well and they handle nicely. Has anyone tried these on an 1125 yet?

I had 6k on my rear when I traded it in. it still had a lot of life left. Those were Diablo stradas. I'll probably put them on my CR when the time comes. My only concern is straight line traction with any of these sport touring tires. This bike has so much power that it might spin these tires with harder rubber in the center.

the Michelen's I read about were the Pilot Road 2's... forgot the "road" in my initial post.

Sounds like you're getting some good miles with those Scorpion Syncs... I need to check their price. Like I said... I'm trying to get bang for the buck given I have 2 bikes that I ride quite a bit. Basically I need about 4~6 rear tires a year... adds up quick. Like I said... I'm not concerned about track performance given I ride the roadways 99.9999% of the time.

Hmm... I seen that the Diablo Stradas are a decent price... 'bout $135 a according a link a bud sent me earlier.

Metzler me 880's (high mileage touring tire)are a pretty decent tire. I got 12k out of a rear on my vrod and the front had a slight amount of cupping. probably due to the messed up rake of the vrod. The rear probably had another 1000 left in it when I traded it in. I rode that Vrod pretty damn hard and never lost traction through a curve, even when scraping the pipe.
I don't know if they make them in the size that you need.
I put one on the rear of my ultra at 10k, I now have 15k on it and it still looks great.
I am by no means an expert on tires. Just stating that I have had great success with these tires on my rides.

17,000 km on my oem Corsa 111, which I believe is about 11,000 miles; and still had tread left front and rear. I am happy with that, so replaced them with same.

i am running shinkos front and rear on an XB9.

i've never doubted the grip. no doubt it is a harder rubber than any pirelli. the rear is getting table topped, but i have been keeping it on the well-beaten path.
now i'm not gonna take it to the track with these, but i'm not gonna go to any track any ways. it's cool and all to be 'track-ready' and everything but reallly?
i mean REAALLLLLLLLY?
i've realized that i'm not going to the track after work. i'm going home.

I'm on my 3rd set of Pilot Road 2's. 1st rear went 9,500 miles b4 it got too squared off for comfort. 2nd rear went 7,500 miles b4 I picked up a roofing nail and decided that plugging, etc was not worth it for 2,000 miles.

I'll probably go with another set before spring since I just turned 5,000 miles on this rear.

I've had great success with Continental Road Attacks, 10K out of rears, good grip and that was on a Hayabusa. I'll probably put them on the Buell when it's time.

I tried the Road Attacks before the PR2. Didn't get the mileage or as good a feel in the corners.

More importantly, ME880, do they make them in a radial design?

I would not put a tire on this bike that was not as sticky as what came on it unless you don't ride the corners hard at all. I've already busted the rear lose in a turn and I was not riding that hard. last bike I had do that was my ZX 10. with motor work done to it.

Bridgestone BT-016's stick pretty good for me and they look like they'll go maybe 6000 miles on the rear, but they were $100 less than the corsa 3's at $135 for the rear and about $100 for the front. I forget where I got them though. Mounted and balanced at home on a NoMar changer.

ME880s ae cruiser touring tires. Not really made for sportbikes.

Try Michelin Pilot Road 2CT. The ones Nicky Hayden advertised.

These are 12.000 miles tires, with the greatest wet grip, and reasonable dry grip.

These are the best all around tires in the market.

try the metzeler roadtec z6 interact. it's perfect working tire for the buell.

a lot of people here in europe have these on their buell. the michelin pilot road 2 is also a very long lasting one.

The original poster asked for better tire life. I simply stated that I got really decent life out of metzler 880's. They do make cruiser tires with the ZR rating. After looking into it at my tire store of choice, I discovered they do not make the size needed for buell. I also never claimed to be a tire expert. So disregard.

I run the ME880s on my K1200LT and get 20K out of them. Never had a traction problem with them either (except in the rain... for some odd reason I feel more confident in the rain on my Buell with the Diablo Corsa IIIs than I do on the LT with the ME880s... go figure).

Glad to hear there are people in Europe running the Z6 Interacs. Next time I need tires I'll look into those.

tyres- ain't pretty OR cheep. Got almost 7k before cord started peeking on rear of original Corsa. Going to DUNLAP for next set. Since only cruising/commuting, and short runs in FLA. shall be OK for me. Hear bad stuff about SHINKO but usually cause are on BUSA's. LOTS of HP there. Most tyres made today are mucho better quality than even 5yrs. ago. Ran some IRC's on a 500 NINJA at Jennings for re-liscense & had Dads' and others in School looking at my machine as was smallest HP and in top 1/3 for Class. Kept telling was the IRC's until I mentioned was Racer a dozen yrs prior...... all depends on the riding style

I used to run Avon Storm tires on my ST1300. I think they make them in a 180/55 as well, so you could easily run them on the 1125r.

It was a great compromise between a high performance tire and something suitable for higher mileage and rain. (I swear the Storm almost had better grip in the rain!) I would get about 4k out of a rear, and that's on a 800lb bike, with some two-up. Not bad at all.

Might be worth a try... I really liked 'em, and if I were going to be taking a several-thousand mile trip on the 1125r, I'd probably try them or the Strata to get the extra miles.

As for the PPR2CT... I've got biddies getting 6k on those out of liter bikes! You do sacrifice high end sporting performance for sure, but as a "Sunday ride" and commute tire, it seems like a good choice. They are supposed to be really dependable in the wet, too.

pilot power 2cts for good grip and longevity.

i've also heard good things about the bridgestone bt016's great grip and longevity, and they are much cheaper

Love the Pilot Road2's on my S2. Awesome in the wet, and outstanding lateral grip, combined with great tread life (4k on them now, they still look like new).

S1W and CR will be getting them as they wear out their current footwear. Probably her M2L as well...but at this rate, she's never going to go through tires. One's bike must be ridden in order to use tires....grrrr....

I have the metzeler roadtec z6's on my BMW R1100s. They work great...I would put those on the R in a blink...

Have run Syncs on my Uly and typically 4-5k on the rear. I got over 9k on the rear PR2 (front still good) and probably good for another 1-2k but I changed it for the Oct26 ride.

Wow... all the responses are appreciated... yes Ironjim... even yours. I was actually wondering if cruiser style tires would function well enough to serve as a commuter tire on my XB. I put about 8K miles on a Sportster that I used to own and the back tire still looked new. Sooo... given I mainly use my XB for commuting (1125 for twisty recreation) I thought about getting some cruiser type tires.

I plan on jotting down the tires you guys recommended and researching them a bit to find the best deal considering $$$, wear (something that provides about 10K miles under normal use), and proper functionality for each of my bikes purposes.

For now... I am leaning towards the Shinkos for the XB and the Michelin Pilot Road 2's for the 1125.

Thought I noticed someone chime in that he is getting 11K on his stock Corsa III's. Hmmmm... must be some silky smooth roadways you're riding on. I bought my XB and 1125 new... both came stock with the Diablos (Corso III on the 1125)... both showed cord at 5~6K. and that is without doing a single burnout or any other sort of high stress riding. Since then I put on a Dunlop and a Michelin (forget their exact model).. both of which lasted 5K.

Hence this thread... I'd rather spend some of this "tire fund dough" on other things... like mods : )
