My 620 mile check up is due soon and it got me thinking that $22 plus tax is not cheap for an oil filter from the HD Dealership. I was at a Can-Am dealership today and compared the oil filters they use in the Spyders to the ones used in our 1125's and it looks the same. So I have done some more research and I have come to find out this link: http://www.hiflofiltro.com/16.0.html?sel_artnr=hf+564&L=0

What do y'all think of this? The Can-Am dealership wanted $10.99 and eBay wants $18.95 for 2 plus shipping. Has anyone been using the HiFlo HF564 filter and if so, have they been good?

Your first service might be free, call the dealer.

But yes this has been discussed the canam and aprillia that uses the Rotax are all the same, and yes the hiflo ohh and 22 is too much unless your including tax most and myself included have got ours for 20 at the dealer

As I related to in the other oil filter thread, I've used the same "o" ring at least three time with no leaks what so ever. And, I'm on the same copper washers on the two drain plugs, although I have all three items on hand, just in case. I do torque all bolts to factory specs. not just guess at tightness. Bob

I got these for 9.67 from a local dealer that sells and services all the Jap bikes and Can Am spyders. They are distributed through Tucker Rocky. I just picked up 5 Bunna O rings for almost nothing at a local Industrial rubber company. So that is the only other thing the dealer wants 7 bucks a pop for the o ring. Hf564 does not have O ring in the box. Not to mention somewhere on the Box on the Hiflo's will have what the filter fits and it does say 1125 bikes

I contacted Scott's Performance and gave them the info on the 1125 oil filter. Jake says call and he will get a micron reusable oil filter made for $89.00 each.

I am not familiar with the reusable oil filters, but I like the sound of that. How easy are they to clean?

Reusable oil filters are pretty easy to clean. Just use carb and choke cleaner and rinse with warm water. Ensure it drys and then reuse.

I will have more info on O-ring spec friday. I will get the sample micd up again at my local place. He did give me domestics last week and they look spot on.

Bunna O ring cone shaped tool was used for I.D. and a digital micrometer for the thickness. I just did not write down the measurements when I was there.

Was the o-ring a stock size? I used to work with o-rings all the time at my last job, and measuring them out they were either dead-on with a stock size or some weird-ass size that had to be custom-made. And how did you find out the OEM material was Buna? Just curious...

So how long are you down waiting for the filter to dry? Or do you have two so you always have one ready?

BTW, a quick payback calculation based on $15 for Buell filter would be ~30,000 miles or ~6 oil changes. If you get the filter and o-ring for $8 it would be ~60,000 miles and 11 oil changes.

For me, riding ~800 miles a week I could pay it back pretty quick but, I'd rather not mess around with cleaning the filter and waiting for it to dry. I do appreciate the finding of an alternate source of filters.

I'd rather be riding!!!!!

The Scotts Oil Filter uses laser cut, medical grade, 304 stainless steel micronic filter cloth. To clean simply remove the filter, rinse in clean solvent and replace it, you're done. The filter can be cleaned with solvent, kerosene, aerosol carburetor cleaner, or any other degreasing agent, even common dish soap. You can even blow air through the filter from the inside out to remove any small particles or cleaning agent from the screen if you so desire.

There should not be a lot of time spent waiting for the filter to dry.

Been on the HiFlo filter website here and checked Compatibility here !

As the filter is common between the Buell and Aprillia I would not be surprised if the filter cover and the o-ring were the same as well - Rotax just used the same parts.

I'm wondering what other engine components are the same - I suspect drain plugs and sealing rings at least ...
