About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I started a thread on a weird noise in the motor on my CR. To me, it sounded like a chain slapping around, like a cam chain tensioner wasn't tensioning.

Just got a call today, saying the nut on the clutch side was a bit loose, slacking up I guess the clutch assembly, as well as the gear(s ?) that drive the balance shafts.

Everything looked ok, no damage, so they're buttoning it up and I'll have her back soon.

Fortunately, I've gotten to use the down time to break in my wife's new black CR!

It's kind of nice to ride a quiet, stock bike, but I really do miss the rumble and bark of my Drummer.

Anyway, there's the symptoms and the cure. If you hear a sudden increase in a clatter noise just off idle, from the left side of the motor, look at the nut on the clutch side.

Mine was doing this straight out of the Dealer (real bad).
I posted this solution to some others on here that was asking about excessive noise and lose of power.

It made a night and day difference for mine.

This was a bulletin for the race teams to up the torque on the nut, not a known issue for street bikes.

My 00' X1 cracked the nut on the crankshaft and it raised a RACKET!! I was lucky that I caught it real quick. ABnormal noises need to be investigated quickly.

DArn I even have that problem in my truck, a loose nut behind the wheel (maybe even behind this keyboard LOL)!

Maybe I need another beer, yeah that will help ;+}
