hey folks, I'm getting an '08 R and just wanted to know what the visual distinctions are between the 2 model years. I do believe the '08's all come with the yellow blinker color in the mirror. But I have seen some '08 pics on the web with clear ones (maybe changed I suppose). Anything else other than the blue frame/wheels, etc? |

08's came with clear covers. I know the pictures from buell.com had amber, but the production bikes had clear. Big difference is that the 08 have a blue frame and wheels. 09's have a black frame and wheels. Not to forget they come in other colors than black plastics. I hear the arctic white bikes are faster but I would think they would have a hard time battling against my black. |

Most 2008s have the smaller "puck" with the Rev.A clutch cover. 2008s have the stainless steel heat shield. 2008s have different O2 sensor positions on the headers--but you have to be real keen to notice that one! |

08 are easy, all black body on blue frame. 09 has black frames and the swing arm spools. 10 has same as 09 with different decals and an oil sight glass on the engine in case someone changes the body decals on an 09 to try to trick ya into thinking it's a '10. These are the best ways to quickly identify. |

Easiest way, if you are looking at the BIKE - Month and year of build are stamped into the neck. Loretta's stamp is NOV 07, she's an 08. Z |

ok thanks for all the replies, I was curious about the front blinker cover colors and also the steel heat shield versus the plastic one. Lol thanks Zac for that one. I was more thinking of looks as per looking at the frame lol. cheers guys |

AFAIK the heat shields are all metal, if you're talking about the one clamped to the header pipe. They just started coating them black in '09 was all. |

ah ok they just looked plastic(y) in the pics, makes sense though to be metal , think I will try and get a black coated one, don't really like the shinus, have to wait and see up close I guess |

The shiny heat shield looks like ass, but does the job better than a black one...function over form. I think the first mod i did was ceramic coat the heat shield on the header...I also got the square carbon fiber heat shield piece from American Sport Bike. It looks 100% better than the stock piece. |

I took my heat shield, flat blacked the outside and mirror-polished the inside. It stays pretty cool that way. Silver looked like ass - well put Harlan. Z
