Holy shit... Looks like HD is going to jettison Buell. Good time to do it: the factory is shut down, anyway. |

guys if this is true and not something like "let's trash the Blast, i'm a marketing genius", you overthere should be worried for the future of your nation.. Even an idiot would understand that it's better to sell to chine than simply shut down. |

We over here *are* worried for the future of our nation, but for reasons way more complicated than the loss of Buell. |

Tossing it completely. Not selling, but getting rid of them as a company. I guess I would have more enjoyed him telling Harley to stick it up their ass, and they were going to continue on their own, but I'm sure he has contractual obligations. I wonder how the parts situation is going to be going forward in light of the current problems people have had getting various parts. Also, are the dealers that aren't that great with Buell now just going to completely bail on people that purchased from them? Please don't spew party line in response to those thoughts, as it would tell me you haven't been in the real corporate world. Companies dissolving other companies always puke out the marketing line that they will continue full support, etc., and proceed to do otherwise with a smile on their face. Harley is a company like the others, don't be fooled by good marketing when times were great. When times are crap, like now, the truth of good or bad management will shine through. This is disappointing. |

Is there no hope though? Can not another company buy Buell and reinstate production - perhaps under another badge? I refuse to believe that such a great American success story can come to such an unceremonious end. The innovation and sheer genius of this small company MUST have caught the attention of some of the big players out there who see its potential STILL valid in the motorcycling world. |

Posted on Monday, September 14, 2009 - 12:28 pm: I was just wondering what your true thoughts are on the future of Buell? To be determined. I would think Buell, being around for sometime now, should be able to branch out without HD? To be determined, maybe answered? With the number of dealers dropping the Buell line, HD has to have a close eye on this with their own sales being down? Answered! Will another company be interested in the Buell line? To be determined, maybe answered? Who do you think will be interested, and what changes will take place in Buell? To be determined, maybe answered? Just wondering myself? Answered! I am not trying to piss anyone off, or start a rumor on Buell leaving Harley Davidson! The Workers should be the main concern, in my opinion!!! |

Come on guys are you really surprised? Honestly? With all of the various issues we've discussed over the past year; quality, customer service, low sales, factory shut down, massive warranties, etc. Yes of course I'm sad to see them go and I wish everyone at Buell the best. |

discounted? they must have parts stockpiled.... just think, a chain conversion means HD has a few belts they WOULDN'T have to sell. Now's the time to let all the trick parts not in the catalog out of the bag... Might as well have the most badarse 1125 on the east coast, right? |

Having recently read Court's book, I can say that Erik has seen his fair share of tough times. I just can't imagine him letting his baby die like this after they finally are at a point to be a very successful company. Something tells me there is more going on than we're privy to. If not, then I need to ride my little CR on sunny days a few times a year and keep it as a conversation piece. |

I don't know what he normally sounds like, but I went back and listened again, and to be honest it sounds like he is about to break down at points. I'm sorry for him and the employees, and wish them all the best. Also hope that somehow they are able to come out on the other side and keep making bikes. I had planned a trip down with the kids to maybe get the youngest excited about cycles. I've been through the company evaporating with our home town airline. Again I hope all goes much better for all those at Buell. |

Court is implying there's a "silver lining" to this story. See new post here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=17&post=1604816#POST1604816 |

This always happens to me. I buy a Dodge Ram Hemi and gas go's to $4.00/gal. We buy a small econo box car and they give out $4500.00 for doing the same a few months latter. Now I have a bike with out a company. Hope I can get the mystery throttle fixed before the warranty dries up |

Court said he's up to his eyeballs and would stick to one thread - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=17&post=1604816#POST1604816 My boss just called and woke me up with this news. I am hurting for Erik and the Elves. Zack |

I am as disappointed as everyone else here, but, I have to hope that this may be a new beginning for Buell. Its association w/HD may have helped it at one point, but it has done nothing for it in recent years (as most of us realize). For the moment, my thoughts go to Eric and the good people at Buell. |
