The seals in the '10 have been changed to reduce free play in the brakes. Does anybody know if they work, and if so, can they be retrofit in the '08?

Don't know a certain answer, but from what I can see I don't see why not.

Don't know if this is relevant, but a couple months back my 08 developed a weep in the rear master cylinder. I took it in, hoping for a simple adjustment; they told me it was necessary to rebuild. days later they called and informed me that no rebuild kit was available, so they had to completely replace the thing. No problem since.

I've not noticed a lot of free play in my brakes --- front or rear. Anyone else?

My rear shock spring almost wore through the hard line between the rear MC and the res under the seat.

I replaced it a while back with the short bit of vinyl tube trick.

I would think that the seals in the caliper would be the culprit. When the brake is released the caliper pistons seem to retract a touch too much. With a different seal that will not pull the pistons back so far the lever resistance would be there quicker and would feel better.

I noticed that on my 09cr too... its great that you wont have any pad resistance agenst the rotor but I have never seen a pad completely lift off the rotor when you release the pedal before... it leaves a nice little gap that you can see light thru.

Is there a part # for this yet? I am getting ready to bring mine into the shop for pad replacement front and rear, would this be something they could pop in while in service?

I found these 2 part numbers on a quick online search, they might be related:

CR0001.3AM PISTON LINING, 22X17,8X4,0 Retail Price:$18.70

CR0002.3AM PISTON LINING, 41X36,8X4,0 Retail Price:$21.80

I will tear into my physical parts book and try and figure it out.

Froggy, you are the man...you need a raise. Now if we can confirm that this is indeed a simple seal replacement... I'll order it and try it out.

Actually, disregard that last post, I thought you were talking about the caliper, not the master cyl.

I found this new part number
H0020.1AMA FRONT BRAKE PISTON SET Retail Price:$15.25

The limited info I see shows it as a superseded part, so it should retrofit just fine into older models.

As for the part numbers above, I have no idea what they are for, so I wouldn't order them.

yea if something as simple as replacing the seal can fix it i'd be stoked. i'm sure that would be much cheaper than replacing the brake system with the brembo stuff.

For what its worth, I also have the ZTL2 setup on my XB, but use the Nissin master cylinder and Lyndal pads, it feels stronger than the setup on my stock 09 CR.

Don't bother with H0020.1AMA front brake piston set. I put it on for the 08R. Made it worse. The only difference (in comparing original part & new parts) is the spring. The original had a shorter stronger spring. This kit's got a longer weaker spring. There is a way too much play with this kit, although the brake feels a bit firmer after taking up the play. If you put the lever setting to 5 (shortest reach), there's only like a 1 inch of space left between the closest part of the lever and the grip after the play has been taken up. When I mean play, I'm talking about the amount of lever you need to move before the piston actually starts pushing fluid.
