Has anyone seen their thermostat act up? The symptom is the bike will go into "flashing cold" mode even though the motor is plenty warm. A few seconds or tens of seconds later, it will return to normal. This is on my track bike, so it's really spooky because the bike also appears to rev limit about 7k when it thinks it's cold. I had that come up in a corner yesterday and transfer all the bike's weight to the front tire. Think throttle chop. Gaaak! I'm mostly just looking for pointers on what to ask my dealer to check. There's no way for them to reliably reproduce the problem. |

Jim,I would suspect the coolant temp. sensor.Maybe going open at a certain temp. |

Can you reproduce it or is it a sporadic thing? If you CAN reproduce the event, run your dash with CT showing and see if it's a gradual thing or instantaneous. It does sound like a wiring or sensor issue tho. Low temp reading suggests an open circuit, not a shorted wire. I checked the Electrical Diag. manual. Check the connector first. Zack |

The issue is definitely intermittent. It comes an goes from time to time, and it only "fails" for a few seconds at a time, as described. Why would an open circuit read cold? I figured a temp sensor would be some kind of thermo resistor, meaning cold is relatively very conductive (short) and hot would be relatively less conductive (open connection for infinite temp.) Explain to a non-mechanic, please! |

I'd give Henry a shout and see if he has heard of similar issues from other Buell racers. |

IF I was a bettin' man, I'd bet that's a faulty sensor or a break in the wire somewhere. |

The E manual said (high resistance)open=cold, (low resistance)short=hot at the sensor. So: 1) sensor is failing open 2) a connector is loose and losing contact intermittently. or 3) a wire is broken but touching and losing contact intermittently, This is a perfect time to do a "wiggle test" on your CT wiring. If you can't replicate the flashing cold with a wiggle test, most likely is the sensor. Zack |
