2009 1125R with 3000 miles Sometimes it seems that pulling in the clutch kills the bike. It only happens when pulling in the clutch to downshift while rolling off the throttle, such as approaching a traffic light or exiting a freeway. It does not always happen. So far I have been able to quickly find the start switch before things get ugly, but I live and commute in Los Angeles. I fear a time when I am not able to get the bike restarted fast enough and I need throttle to get out of a sticky situation. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any similar experiences? More importantly, has anyone had this problem and fixed it? |

How often has it happened? Does it happen more or less when it's hot/ cold? |

If you kill swich and ignition is still on andd your moving. If you let your clutch lever bac out the bike should start right back up. Atleast it did for me lol |

had the same problem with mine when i got it. mine only happened when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. took it back to dealer and they replaced clutch plates cuz they said they were glazed and there was a recall issue on 2008 1125r clutch. take it in and let them know |

The 5th gear recall doesn't involve the clutch? My bike is currently at the dealer because I have no clutch feel and cant shift into first after starting it up in N. This engine has plenty of issues yet to be sorted. -2008 1125r owner, dec 07 build |

The 5th gear recall was on the oil passage in the clutch shaft that lubricated the gears/ dogs sliding back and forth (at least that's the way it was explained to me, maybe a little simplified). It installed a plug that had a smaller hole in it so more oil would be retained inside the shaft versus just pouring out the end as originally designed. |

Ccryder, "How often has it happened? Does it happen more or less when it's hot/ cold?" It has happened about ten times. It happens after the bike has warmed up, but not overheating. I just had a bad stator replaced. I hoped that it was somehow also killing the bike, but now I have the new stator and the stalling issue remains. |

When my 08' was acting up it would usually happen when I was just pulling away from a stop or, I would blip the throttle prior to pulling away while balancing at a stop. Mine was corrected with the last flash on my 08'. Do the 09' slightly raise the rpm as you are releasing the clutch at idle? With a low inertia motor like this, that little rpm boost goes a long ways at smoothing things out (IMHO). If I'm reading you right your's sounds more like a clutch drag versus what I experienced. Hmm, I'll have to think about this some more. How is your shifting using the clutch? How much free play before your friction zone? Any clutch weep? How is your clutch fluid level? Neil S. |

My 09 R had a similar issue a few times when new. It happened maybe 5 times rolling up to a stoplight, or going slow. It has not happened in quite a while, knock on wood. |

The clutch feels fine. I will have to check the fluid level. My 2008 never did this in 12000 miles. The 2008 did die a few times during break in while blipping the throttle for a down shift. |

My problem just got fixed. It was due to an improperly machined stator causing the crank position sensor to read falsely. The stator basically has ridges and pits (binary) along the edge. Two adjacent ridges are supposed to be removed for the sensor to use as a locator. Mine were not smoothly removed causing the sensor to read them occasionally as ridges. Evidently Buell released a bulletin about this back in March 09. This is not an isolated incident! |
