so as im getting geared up to get my 1125 repaired from last weeks accident, i am planning on replacing the stock muffler with a drummer. i told tthe guy at the dealership who is working up the quote for the insurance company what i am planning on doing, and was strongly against it. he protested that the bike runs too lean with the stock maps as is, and an aftermarket muffler will make it run more lean, still. he said it will run like crap and worst of all, will void my warranty. assuming that the dealership will be doing the repairs, they would want me to sign a waiver saying they told me the risk and bla bla bla. i did by best to respectfully disagree, but he wasnt having any part of it, and saying that this always happens when guys put aftermarket exhausts on their bike without remapping and on and on... so what gives? |

TOTALLY depends on your dealer as to whether or not they want to honor warranty with any modifications like that. One of my local dealers, to show contrast, asked me about why I hadn't added an exhaust and was very excited to hear about the "forbidden software" available. They even encouraged me to tune the bike with more fuel and such, and come back to report what changes worked best! |

It depends. I think easyrider and others have proven that these bikes do run lean stock, and aftermarket exhausts can make the matter worse. IMO the only part of the warranty that could be void would be damage caused by a lean condition. Other stuff, like a failed turn signal or a leaky clutch cover is not tied to a lean condition should be covered. That would be the common sense approach anyway. |

hmm.. i suppose ill check my other dealer in the area. i would imagine that they wouldnt mind having me take warranty claims since they have brand new 1125's on their floor with aftermarket exhausts!!! when im at that particular dealership, im going to ask if the bike comes with a warranty or not since they've essentially voided it with an exhaust system before the stupid thing has been titled!. if they say yes, then theyll have a hard time arguing that my bike should be treated any different! i suppose im spoiled; a couple months ago i took my dodge ram diesel pickup in to the dealership and they warrantied out my engine no questions asked; despite the fact that the intake, exhaust, turbo and ECM programming have been dramatically modified from its stock version!
