My low fuel light recently stopped working, and I was wondering for all of you that set your trip after filling up, how many miles approx you get per tank?...Im tired of popping the cap and shaking the bike LOL, it doesnt work too well. |

I typically fill up before the low fuel light comes on, at around 130-140 miles. It's just how my commute usually works out. I have seen the light come on at 140 miles before, and I have gone 170 before and not had it come on. Just reset your average MPG each tank, and calculate out to between 4.0-4.5 gallons. So, if you're getting say 40 MPG average, you should be very safe filling up every 160 miles (i.e. just over a gallon left in the tank). (Message edited by ponti1 on July 11, 2009) |

I usually go 160 if I'm not pushing it. Safe side would be 150. You really should see the dealer about getting it fixed, you should still be under warranty. |

My light comes on at 150 mile if not riding too hard. If aggressive it usually comes on around 125. |

Ponti: guess I need to study the owner's manual (gotta be round here somewhere) but I didn't know ya could actually reset the average mpg. Your gonna laugh, but since I have added heaps of fuel to this thing, I was WONDERING how da he11 the average mpgs were staying the same, at 34. D'OHHHH! |

I get 140-150 in town, 180 -190 freeway to the light, 120-130 in the hills. |

My worst since the 05z flash was 35 mpg and I was ringing it's neck on some hilly and curvy back roads. I average around 39-40 commuting to/from work. |

Reset average MPG by toggling to it on the IC using bottom button. Then, just hold down bottom button until display shows "--" for the average. At first, your instant MPG will also show "--" until you go a few miles. |

I don't trust the low fuel light at all. Mine comes on at different times and it changes every reflash. The trip meter is what I go buy and it hasn't done me wrong yet. Fill up around 120-130 at the latest that's what I try to do. Although I'm sure it could make it 150 plus. |

I hope you're getting that fuel light fixed while the bike is still within the warranty period... You'll most likely get a fancy 2009 dash with the gear indicator and battery voltage features. I generally get 29-31 MPG and fill the tank around 125 miles. It usually has around 0.6 gallons left at that time. Recently I did get 160 miles on a tank riding 2-up mostly on the freeway. Best I *EVER* got was 48 MPG while drafting a semi-truck through the Nevada desert for most of a tank... |

You guys that are only getting 110-130 miles before the light goes on...are you riding 100 miles an hour or do you keep it in 2nd or 3rd gear all the time? |

Yes, don't you????? J/K! I normally ride in 3rd for my 70 mile commute and get high 30's mpg. If I ride in 4th, I'll get low-mid 40's. This is two lane TN back country roads. I don't know what I would get on the interstate since I don't ride on them enough to count. Later Neil S. |

are you riding 100 miles an hour Nah, I ride 120-140 regularly. Seriously though, I do a lot of city riding and some rapid-acceleration take-offs, wheelies and bursts of ludicrous-speed. This bike brings out the hooligan in me! |

100mph! No but I do about 80% back roads that are posted at 35mph. So my bike sses a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear runs up in the higher rpms to get through the fun twisites. Lots of hills up and down. So lugging in 4th is not an option |

Im averaging 38 mpg after the last flash up from 32 mpg. I usually push mine to 170 miles between fillups... 2 round trips to work and back. i reset my 1st trip meter at every fill up. |

mine comes on around 110-117. but its usually when i go to get on it the next day, when she's on her side stand. it goes off after a mile or two but i still give her a drink... i ran outta gas last year and had to push her 2 miles down the freeway to a gas station. oh ya, the gas station had gone outta bisuness and didnt know 'till i got there. so i'm cautious now. lol |

The guys getting 40+ MPG are either nursing or doing it at high altitudes. I get about 28-30 MPG in Arkansas, and much worse on the track, but that's to be expected. I ride the piss out of the bike on the track. In AR, it's smoother, but still "spirited" riding, not highway slab. If you are riding quickly, plan on the low fuel light at about 120 miles, and you have about 20 miles of fuel left. Unfortunately, I know this too well. |

My AVG always seems to wind up at 39. I am at 5000' ASL, 70-30 commute/twisties. Twisty rides take me up to 8-9000'. Z |

Doing 70+ mph on the interstates/highways, I'll get ~40+ mpg. Refill every 150 "just to be safe." Short commutes/riding in town that only see 1st & 2nd gears get me ~28 mpg. Refill every 100 "just to be safe." |

"about 20 miles of fuel left. Unfortunately, I know this too well." Tested this myself and ran out 1 mile from the pump. |

Anytime my light has come on it's been around 135 miles or so. I'm going to push this tank just to be sure since I have ling trip coming up and I want to know what the real deal is. My light also does funny thins where it will come on after I first start it up, and then go off after a minute or so of riding. Not sure if it's a temperature thing or a lean thing, but that's what it does. My mileage generally stays in the low 30's, but I'm usually heavy with the throttle and chance I get. |

XL- same here. I assumed it was from lean angle, but now that you mention it--seems it would kick on during a long left turn if it were just angle. Hmmmm.... |

Zac, Those high altitudes make a difference. I got much better mileage in CO than I do here in TX. If I put 87 pump gas in the bike, it runs like garbage. But, last trip up to CO, we were in the high mountains and often only 85 or 87 octane was available. The 1125r ran fine up there on that gas. Of course, it was an excercise in WOT all the time. The bike had no power. |

I also only run 93 octane in mine. Never even tried using 87 or 89. I usually run 3 days back and forth to work before refills at 150-160 miles. Average is around 3.9-4.2 gallons. |

Mine runs like crap with anything but high octane. I say runs like crap, I mean doesn't run right, like it should. Noticeable difference. Couple of things on the mileage (or lack thereof!) 1. I am at about 5-10 feet elevation. Good air. 2. I'm not the most conservative rider. Like to stretch the cables... 3. I weigh like 255-260. Maybe a bit outside of the norm...? None of this can be goood for mileage. But it still beats the crap out of my wifes FX4! R |

I would steer clear of running octane lower than premium. The manufacturer recommends it for a good reason; not because they have stock in Exxon. Detonation is a bad thing... |

Yeah, these things are running, what - 12.5:1 compression? Anything less than 93 (MAYBE 91) is just asking for trouble. |

The compression is listed as 12.3:1. I have never run anything lower than 91 octane. 92 octane is most readily available in my area; I only ran 91 in California which was the highest available. XL, Bott: I have also been experiencing the same low-fuel light issues you mentioned... I believe Zac has also had similar issues in the past. It sure would be nice if that issue were resolved. |

I filled up today after traveling 207.5 miles. Fuel light came on right after 200 miles reached. I put 4.4 gallons of gas in the tank and got about 47 mpg on that tank. That tank was mostly Interstate and Highway riding. To Put things into perspective I got as low as 22 mpg on the original flash from the factory. |

Had to ride 30 miles yesterday to get a full leather for a track day coming up (guy I know sold his bike and had a "worn once" Gericke leather to get rid of. Before my friend and I got on the freeway I said, "my light just turned on, I need some gas." He responded, "can you make it 30 miles?" So we set out and took it pretty easy getting there, rolling off the freeway as my bike clicked 28 miles on the fuel odometer. As we approached the next light off the freeway I said, "hey man, I need gas now." Not a second later the bike quit, odometer reading 32.2 miles. With my average at 36 mpg, I figured I had a few more, but learned a hard lesson. Oh well, it was a fun ride and I walked away with a brand new leather for $200. |

Fryman1125: That sounds about right... The reserve is 0.7 gallons, not 1.0. Since you were taking it easy getting there your average during that part of the trip was approximately 46 MPG. |
