After a ride today I wanted to look at diagnostic mode just the hell of it. When I turned the key one, the bike did the normal routine for about 1 second then died completely. I took the seat off and checked the fuses. The battery (main) fuse as described in the service manual is supposed to be rated for 30 amps. The one that blew was 15. Fortunately, the bike has a spare 30 amp fuse in the tool kit. What kind of idiot is assembling these bikes? Anyone else have this problem? |

If I recall correctly, one of the few items the dealer is responsible for during PDI is the installation of the main fuse. So, to answer your first question "What kind of idiot is assembling these bikes?" Your dealer... |

Well that explains it perfectly, thanks. |

LOL...From your response, it doesn't sound like this sort of thing from your dealer would surprise you. |

Actually the "spare" you found in the tool kit I believe is the one they are suppose to install during the PDI. It is stored in the tool kit so they know where to find it. Go figure huh? |

There was a fastener missing on my right side pod when I got the bike. Also, the valve stem cap on the rear tire was missing. I wondered myself if it was a dealer or a factory screw up. Tried to get the dealer to give me a valve stem cap, but he did not. BTW, are you the same "Ron Luning" who got two letters published in Motorcycle Consumer News in the past few months? I thought your name sounded familiar when I read those letters. If so, cool... |

I did just get a letter in MCN this last month in the cycle attorney section. I wasn't aware of another letter being printed, I must have missed it because from what Google says there's only one other guy out there with my name aside from my father. |

Yeah, there was this letter to the Editor about MSF-type training for Navy folks. The author (someone named "Ron Luning") was saying that instruction like this wasn't addressing the real safety issue (which was psychological, or something along those lines). Not you? |

Oh yeah that was me. I thought they didn't print that one; I must have missed it. And it's true, you can't teach a young guy not to do stupid stuff. Really you can't teach most guys of any age not to do stupid stuff. |
