Hey guys I have a question about checking the fluid level in the master cylinder. My bike has been a little hard to shift and find neutral, until its been rode a few miles. I thought I better check the fluid level. I unscrewed the two screws and removed the cover. Next I removed a white plastic cover. Under this cover was a black rubber boot. Is this the cover gasket boot? There was no fluid inside at all. The rubber boot was slightly wet. I did do this while the bike was propped upright perfectly. My question I guess is how can you expect to see the fluid level when the rubber boot (accordian style) gasket is inside. I have about 4000 miles on the bike. Thanks in advance. |

well the fluid is going somewhere. i'd be very interested in knowing where it went. but yes that accordion gasket is there as a part of the moisture control system. needs to be able to have air back fill the void but not create a vacuum while protecting the fluid from atmospheric moisture. top it off with fresh clean fluid and try to find your leak |

If there's no fluid in there, then it sounds like you have the clutch cover leak - check the engine clutch cover below the puck - you will probably see the tell-tale signs ... |

Will do Boogiman, but how with that accordion gasket in the way? When you place it back in it causes fluid to leak out. |

I am good to go again. The screws are crap that hold the cap in place. Both marred on me. I got a couple new ones this morning. |

Virgil, Virgil is this the first master cylinder you have exposed yourself too?? J/K. Anyway, did you check the sight glass which is located on the front side and is VERY difficult to see? BTW, what color was your fluid? Did your lever have more or less play in it? It might help if you strap your clutch lever back to the hand grip overnight. By doing this it allows some of the air to float back up to the M/C. YRMV but it's worked for me!! later Neil S. |

LOl yes Neil, this is the first. Its working good now, it just had ran low for some reason. No signs of a leak, and I think I would catch it. I clean the bike every time I ride. The fluid was a light brown in color. It seemed like the lever had less play in it. I will strap the lever back to the handgrip tonight.
