I have to admit that the 1125 board has concerned me about buying an 08. I still may buy one and price is a large factor in my purchase. Might end up with a nice lightning who knows. I just see things listed like instrument clusters, kick stands, tail lights. I have had harleys, a buell, Triumph, Honda, Yamaha. Lots of bikes. Worked on many myself also. I do love the 1125 bikes. I hope to own one by the end of next month God willing. Notice I said by the end of next month LOL. Still want that price to be challenged a little by the 2010 line. See we are not interested in waiting to buy a 2010 model we just want the price reductions they may bring to others. |

Ducdood9 Posted on Wednesday, July 08, 2009 - 09:37 pm: Wait, 08 will be two model years old in days, you can beat that price, or get an 09 at that price. I personally would be afraid to pay more than $4,500 for an 08 model as they will be really tough to resale in the used market as many will assume you are selling it because it was one of the possessed ones.. Anyone who buys any new vehicle, especially a motorcycle based on speculation about resale is a fool. We're talking about motorcycles here people, big boy toys, not mutual funds. |

Froggy, I was talking with Bud Curtis of Hal's at Homecoming and he brought up an interesting thought. If someone is going to purchase a 1125 motor, they must want it for the speed and the "R" model provides more wind protection than the "CR" model so I would lean more towards the 1125R as compared to the 1125CR which I just test rode last week. The 1125CR is a nice motorcycle but the 1125R is the better high speed performance machine in my opinion. I've been seeing the 2008 1125R models priced at around $8000.00 around here but I don't know what extra's they are adding for a out the door price on them. |

I am more than happy with my 09 but there have been the LFL/CEL issues, Instrument cluster condensation, both of which seem to have gone away now that the winter is over - both these issues are with the latest clusters etc etc - we shall see if they reoccur this winter. As yet no clutch system weep, I am on the rev B cover I think. Saying this the bike is excellent in all respects and I would but another one tomorrow. As far as the original post is concerned why not wait till the 10 model year bikes are announced and then see if you can get an even better deal. |

I really don't see a problem with a recall, it just means that the manufacture found something that might become a problem and are fixing it for you! Nothing wrong with that in my thinking. All is good! |

I think that's the point. At least for me. More recalls would build consumer confidence that they will not be making multiple unexpected returns to the dealer. |

Well I turned it down for now. Gonna wait a few more days and see whats up with the '10s. Cyclondon, I don't give a crap about speed or wind protection. CR with the short gearing and the upright bar kit = my front wheel is only on the ground at red lights

+1, I buy bikes, I don't sell them. I don't give a rats ass if its worth $2k tomorrow, all that means is I can pick up a parts bike cheap. |

The only reason I mentioned resale is to help Gage the retail of a new/2 year old bike |

What do you mean the value. They are worth MSRP aren't they? Just kidding. Motorcycles are not worth nearly what they are charging for them. The only way to pay close to what they are worth is buying them after they have had them sit for a couple of years so they can see the error of their prices. |

Motorcycles are not worth nearly what they are charging for them. I tend to disagree. For the technology and performance, I think they are a bargain. To get a 4-wheeled exotic vehicle with performance close to a literbike, you are looking at 7 figures. |

An '08 R and an '09 R are essentially the same bike. (Yeah, I know there are changing in injectors, O2 location, blah, blah,...) Other than a color preference OR a desire for a CR, expectations of a serious drop in price simply because of the year changes could keep somebody off a great bike they could be riding instead! Waiting for a 2010 and expecting an unknown could be disappointing. ...or not! However, at this point I think I'd gamble on a 2010 being somehow "better", but I don't think the prices on '08s or '09s are going to plummet simply because the calendar turns a another page. |

I personally don't believe there is anything wrong with the 1125R's. I had two re-call notices. One was for a brake line re-route and the other for a kickstand spring. Woohoo! Big deal. I also had two warranty fixes. One was the clutch weep issue which has been a none issue now for over 4500 miles. There other was some condensation at certain elevations/humidity/temp. I have 11,000 miles on my bike now and mechanically and electrically I haven't even had one hiccup or even as much as burnt out bulb. The 2010 will most likely only have some small cosmetic changes and I am sure we will read about a few people bitching about issues about them as well. Buy the bike you like and fits your budget, ride the piss out out it while the warranty is still intact and it will more then likley treat you well. I have had 5 bikes and this one has not had any issues that has made me feel that its less of a value or quality. I actually sold my FZ1 recently because it wasn't any fun after riding the 1125R. Man these threads are getting old. Rant over.. |

Riding what????????? A Buell?????? Oh no how can that be???????? Oh yeah, I'm riding mine too, almost everyday and just can't get that SEG off my face!! I would have it NO other way!! Talked with a TN Trooper on my way in this AM. I was getting gas and he pulled up to find out what I was riding (he rides a GSXR1000 05'). He's looking for something more fun ;+}. I offered my ride for a fit test, and he accepted. Now there was two of us standing/ sitting there with SEG's on our face's LOL . He'll be heading to his Buell Dealer for a demo ride this weekend (I offered mine but he didn't have the time). He has my card (I offered up some advice and modification experience) and I told him about BWB so maybe he can be a better informed consumer. I love riding with LEO's, they know the nicest people ;+} Time2Work Neil S. |

It'd be damn tough to beat a Ulysses. As much as I dig the conversations about a gazillion horsepower. . it's not, at 55, what I am looking for in a motorcycle. I used to get on my Buells, starting over 20 years ago and just go wander. I used an RS-1200 to visit construction job sites and deliver paychecks up until about 1991. When the S2 was built in 1994 . . . I kind became known for "likely to show up anywhere, anytime on a moment's notice". Those were fun times, I saw the entire country from a Buell and was often logging better than a 1,000/week. I went through my zoom-zoom period and it was fun. I owned what is arguably one of the most well known "named" Buells in history and it amazed from coast to coast being the first Buell to set a tire on Daytona when Erik grabbed it one day to do the parade lap of the first Buell Lightning Series Race and months later used it to "teach school" to Keith Caradine's mouthy kid riding a Ducati 916 in the hills near Laguna Seca. Those were fun times. Now I don't get to ride as much so I need to distill the experience into something that provides a meaningful efficient sensory experience. I'm bullshitting no one . . I ride a motorcycle for fun, neither to race nor as basic utility transportation. When I get on I want to be welcome by gadgets, fun stuff and a platform that allows me to toss in cameras, coats, schoolbooks and so forth and head out to find the ohhs and ahhhs. The Ulysses excels. Matters not if I am heading to SoHo to sit on the curb on Thompson Street and drink coffee and listen to Blind Faith or heading to Cornwall to take pics in front of the covered bridge, it's just a darn fun motorcycle. Each ride it gets just a little bit better. Last week I was laughing and screaming in my helmet as I rounded that curve on 9W heading South toward West Point and the ski slopes carved out of the mountains came into view . . . .it's just a gooooood time. Yep. . . I keep tuned in. I stay abreast of my motorcycle, monitor the state of the wheel bearings, kind of ignore some of the rust, love the bags, enhanced the lights and so forth. Knowing one's vehicle is a good way to enhance the enjoyment. I had a habit of getting the Pilot's Operating Manual for every plane I ever flew and knowing the systems, strengths and weaknesses before I once yelled "clear". It makes sense. Buells have a heightened propensity to bring with them fascinating groups of friends. These folks, now numbering over 4,000 in my contact list and from 12 countries, have changed my life. I've seen things I never would have, gone places I never would have, thought thoughts I never would have thought, dreamed unimaginable dreams and am more than I ever would have been. I've enjoyed some great rides, but I've also had my values strengthened and brought into clearer focus by my association with the people who ride, design and build these motorcycles. What you ride is an individual choice. What works for me may not work for you. Look, think and choose as best suits you. I've always found that just as I was shifting directions, Erik Buell was there waiting for me with a new motorcycle. Will the Ulysses be my "last" Buell? Perhaps, but not likely. What is certain is that along with the Cushman and the S2 it now joins the ranks of "not for sale at any price". Erik Buell and The Elves saw over the horizon with the Ulysses. It's a damn good motorcycle. That's really all I want. Court |

Buells have a heightened propensity to bring with them fascinating groups of friends. That’s a true statement. Best NYC tour guide I’ve ever met was because of my interest in Buells. In fact, my wife still talks about our guide whenever she thinks of NYC. |

Oh my poor Uly. That is such a nice bike. I've ridden that all over, and can spend many hours in the saddle. I like way better than the Lightning SS (or the blast). I didn't take delivery of the 1125r until Jan 08. I started favoring the 11 for winter wind protection. Then in the summer I told myself it was it was the sticky tires that made me ride the 11 over the Uly or my other Buells. To be kind to my trusted Uly, on hot days I would take the liquid cooled bike. I don't like to be made fun of too much so when riding with groups that aren't 800 lb Harleys... I take the 1125r. Except riding with my brothers group of Harleys as my brother live 2 hours away through West Virginia twisties and I wouldn't want to miss those on the 11. Yes my 08 1125R (ser# 142) doesn't run smoothly at any steady rpm, but otherwise has been great except a battery drain problem early on that was fixed with a new ignition switch. I will probaby trade my 08 for a 10 just hopfuly to get a smoother more powerful bike. If not I will be happy on the 08 1125R having fun, surprising other sport bike riders, and to answer the original question, yes you should buy one. |
