Well, I figure this is a dumb question which I already know the answer to, but since I'm a bit POed about it... Ok, was heading down the road to meet my parents today when I started to feel something amiss on my bike. Turns out the rear wheel bearing on the belt drive side of my bike decided it didn't like it's seal and spit it off. Well, we can all figure what that results in. So, my question is, the wheel bearings are covered under warranty, right? I only have 9000 miles on this bike so far. |

Oh, something to add. I noticed my bearings are orange seals. I thought Buell went with the black seals sometime back. Why would they put orange seals on the 1125R? Weren't those recalled? |

Cataract2- Yes, wheel bearings will be covered under warranty. Buell changed to black seal bearings made by KBC sometime around October 2007. There is no recall on the bearings, but hopefully you'll get the black seal bearings when they replace yours. Here's the scoop on the wheel bearings from Al Lighton, owner of American Sport Bike: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=1505281#POST1505281 |

Update, it's being covered under warranty. Should have the parts by tomorrow. Bearings are getting replaces. Spacer is in good condition though, so that's a plus. |

Many a wheel bearing failures are due to improper tightening of the axle. Tighten it to torque spec. Then back it out 720 degrees (two turns) and re-tighten to correct torque value. That allows for proper seating of the bearing. |

Doer, I can assure you that I follow the Service Manual to the T when it comes to many things on this bike. I torqued the wheel per spec. |

My comments were just directed in a general direction. The procedure is oft overlooked by owners and techs alike. Not saying you didn't do it right, Cateract2. |

Here we go again, wheel bearing failure on Buells seems to be a big thing over here in the UK, as has been said many times it is usually from incorrect torque and not adhering to the manual. Buy a manual and a good torque wrench and don't allow any tyre tech to take out and refit the wheels, do it yourself and don't use a pressure washer either |
