I'd say that the valve left the engine in pieces out the exhaust. Geez. Hate that it happened, but somehow I get an odd enjoyment from seeing the aftermath of a grenaded engine. It's amazing what happens when things go terribly wrong. |

My guess is that what toasted the bottom end was the chunk of the piston punched out by the valve stem more than the valve itself. I doubt the valve could have passed that hole. |

yea very true, but it was under warranty and it was TOASTED anyway so i just said, "F%%$ it"... either way the engine was gone... Jake |

parts fail. even hand built $100k nascar engines where the best of the best parts are used break valves, valve springs, etc. At least by riding it you trashed it enough to get a complete new mill. had you shut it off right away it may have been fixable. |

Glad you're going to get baby back soon! The cam chain tensioner thing... there was a bad batch of them that went into some CR's, not all of them. They narrowed it down to a certain window of build dates... R |

Best part of blowing up an engine is getting a new one. Does that make the worst part of blowing up an engine that you have to break the new one in before she's totally "right"? |

i wish i could get that piston, but the dealer is required to reassemble the engine and send it back to buell for analysis...sigh.. Ok good to know about the CR's and thats wat im not looking forward to...breaking it in again...oh well so i wonder...since buell is in the process of converting the company to the 10' models...will i get an 09' or 10' engine??? hmmm...im hoppin for the first production 10' engine to hit the streets!! lol THANX Jake |

They have an order of engines in with surplusses of 09 engines sourced. My guess is that you'll get an 09 engine since they have plenty left. |

Since you're in AZ, it would probably be a great idea to get that 2009 inner heat shield lining ordered & installed... Best time to do so is while the motor is out! |

have no problem with Red Line. I put Red Line 10W-40 in last fall, just changed the oil - RL 20W-50 for the warm months ahead. If I lived in any further South, I'd probably run their 20W-60. The ONLY reason I quit using Syn3 was a lack of viscosity options. Zack I believe in my 09 Firebolt manual states that an SAE 60 weight can be used if temps are consistantly above 80 degrees which I live in Murrieta Ca. I saw 105 last weekend everyday for the past month has been over 80. I have the redline 20 60 hd oil in my bike right now and so far its running good. >>>As far as the water pump goes...Still not fixed. Yea it sucks. From what my customer oriented dealer says (sarcasm) Buell is aware of the problem. Its not very common and they don't have a 100% fix yet. I guess replacing the crush washer only fixes it sometimes. I would think that Rotax would be responsible for finding the fix but who knows. I'm not real excited for my dealer to be mucking about inside my motor. I will just have to wait and see. |

Thought Id post it for any others that live or venture out here. Here's the Google links to the rides: Gates Pass: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=gates+pass+tucson+az &oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&safe=on&l l=32.219627,-111.072807&spn=0.049232,0.077162&z=14 Just head west on speedway and dont stop until you drop down the otehr side of the mountain. Its short but fun. And dangerous. Take it easy on the first run. Lots of bikers go into the wall or over the edge. You'll know where when you see it. Mt Lemmon: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=c atalina+HWY+and+tanque+verde+tucson+az&daddr=summe rhaven+tucson+az&geocode=&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=32.3747 05,-110.721635&sspn=0.196592,0.308647&safe=on&ie=U TF8&ll=32.322825,-110.76004&spn=0.196704,0.308647& z=12 A long ride with lots of big twistiest you can hit at triple digit speeds. Great view of Tucson and cliffs. Also, careful on the first run or until you get comfortable. The first switchback at the base is killer and comes on fast (especially at night). Ride up and down and youll want a nap when you get home as all the concentration makes you exhausted. |

Well i got my bike back thursday, but didnt get to ride it till sat (i was seeing family in IL) a few things i noticed with the new 09' engine: 1. the engine itself is WAY quieter than my old engine EVER was, no more clatter, clatter 2. OMG the power difference is AMAZING, the bikes power starts coming on strong around 3k instead of 5k-6k,and it is WAY snappier and ruthless 3. There is a noticeable increase in MPG, around 3 mpg increase now the bad... last night i was about 20mi. from home gettin a bite to eat, and i was passing someone, when all off the sudden i feel my rear end start slipping(so i thought) and wat felt like a flat tire...guess wat...it shredded about 20+ teeth off the belt, and i was required to ride my bike at about 55mph, the WHOLE way home, at least i made it home but still, after 2 days of the best performance my bike has ever given me, and now i cant ride it for probably another week ...o well...that what the warranties are for.. run of bad luck it seems, but congrats on the new engine. I'm really envious of the new oil sight on the side of the block...that would be the main reason I would want an '10 |

enjoy the power gain then, lol. I always putt around on mine and forget about how much power these bikes have. I did a WOT run 1st through 3rd on the way home and quickly rationalized that this is no 1200 air-cooled. |
