There is some odd sounding practices in this thread. Brakes should not require this much thought, should they? |

Jdugger, yer an ECR junky! I'm envious! Have you gotten any time in at MSR Cresson yet? A lot more 'rythm' in that track & not as hard on the brakes. |

Duc, The demands of track riding are a lot different than street applications. Brakes used closer to the limits of their performance have different requirements than those used at 20-30% as in street applications. The heat generated in hard braking puts stress on the couplings, fluid, fasteners and every part of a braking system. The dust generated from the brake pads clogs up calipers and requires more frequent attention. High performance fluids perform better under extraordinary thermal stress, but provide less protection to the braking system over time, and require more frequent changing. You don't think about this stuff so much until one day you are coming into a 50 MPH corner at a buck-ten 25 minutes into your session, you pull the brake lever, and you hit the handle bar. That's the day you learn how to turn in under braking load, take the corner faster than ever before, remove the seat cover from the bike without using your hands, and lubricate the inside of your leathers... all at once. P^2, I love ECR. It's such a challenging track with all the blind corners and the difficult braking zones. The dramatic elevation changes are another chllenge. I have access to MSR Cresson as well, and have probably done 10+ member days there. It's not nearly as challenging as a track, in my opinion, though I agree it's lots of fun. Cresson's corners are not nearly as tight and none are really totally blind like ECR. Even though ECR has a lot of long straights, I find that Cresson is a "higher speed" track. There's sweepers and really high speed corners that ECR doesn't have. In this way, Cresson spooks me more than ECR even though I'm hitting close to 130 on ECR's back stright. Also, Cresson munches tires. I only get 3 good track days out of a set of Corsa III at Cresson, and I'll get between 5 and 6 at ECR. Also, at Cresson, I'm at the wear bar on the left shoulder of the tire, whiel I still have the titties in the center and on the right side! It just kills tires. |

The warranty is the killer !Ya gotta buy it just for the wheel & tire package. It's basically a free trip to get free tires for 5 years. I already got a nail in my back tire & it got replaced for free (just bought the bike & only got 4000 miles so far). As long as you've got that warranty all ya gotta do is get something stuck in your tire..gee i wonder how that could've happened again ????... FREE TIRES FOR FIVE YEARS. There's alot of junk on the roads here in WA & pirelli's pick up all sorts of stuff, as do any soft compound tire. Just having the wheel & tire package is worth the cost of the extended warranty package. 2 sets of tires & you've already paid for the whole thing. plus if anything goes stipid on the bike it gets taken care of..FOR FREE..unless it was from me doing something stupid or modifiying the bike so that the warranty is voided...Not gonna happen. The 1125 is so killer that i don't need to modify it much, at least nothing thats gonna void that warranty. Thanks have a great day, Pete |
