My dealer did me a favor last time the bike was in for repairs and updated my bike with the 05Z. The bike was running almost perfect before the flash but now it is back to the bucking and surging at under 4000rpm. I see that everyone that got this flash on this site has been happy, but my dealer also updated another bike last week and that person came back and complained about the low speed surge also. Buell says that their is something wrong with my bike causing the problem, so I guess this other customer also has something wrong with their bike. I just want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem after the flash? |

I didn't really notice any difference 03Z to 05Z. Could the bucking be due to the AFV reset during the flash? Z |

I had no bucking with the 03Z or the 05Z. The only thing I noticed was an increase in MPG and lower CT. Then again I hardly ever ride below 4k unless I am in 1st or 2nd so I am not sure if I would have noticed anyway. |

The thing that really sucks is half of my ride to work is in the city, 30mph or less so its hard to get around the surging problem. Its not as noticeable at higher speeds, in 1st or second gear at about 3,000rpm it surges really bad. Buell said that there is no way to go back to the 03Z. My AFV is always close to 100 and still is. Another thing I noticed is now it starts hard when hot and cold start rpm seems irregular. |

Its possible that the download was corrupted. You might ask if the tech had your bike hooked up to a charger when he did the download. If the voltage falls during the download it can corrupt the data. Our Buell tech always hooks the 25s up because of this. |

thanks Xbswede time for Elvira to get another reflash I do have to mention that this past Thursday and Friday I was with several others running around in Death Valley....temps were about 100 deg F....my ATs were about 110-120 and CTs were never over 210....I was happy...I was a bit concerned about going there with my 1125 Elvira ran flawlessly the entire 5 days / 1350 miles of riding!!!! She only hard started twice...once due to heat and once due to altitude (maybe it was her attitude) I will be posting more in a new thread soon....so stay tuned bob |

Xbswede, I'll check the tps. The dealer also offered to try the flash again to see if that helps. They thought that there could have been a problem during the flash that screwed it up somehow. I'll try to get back to the dealer again in the next couple of days. |

Chevy, just had it done past Sat, lower temps big thing for me is the battery is charging. Before , after the ride it would be on the tender and charge for 5+ hours. Now with the 05z I put it on and it charged for 30 min. No difference on the low rpm ,seems smooth. I did move the O2 sensors to the new location not sure if it really helped or what. For what its worth. Scott |

All this talk about different flashes and I'm a little confused. Could someone put a little info here about: 03Z flash and what it does/cures 05Z flash and what it does/cures At one time I thought I had it figured out but now it's a little hazy. I went to the dealer a couple weeks ago and got the recall that included moving the front brake line. They did a reflash as well but I have no idea which one it might be. As a bit of history, a reflash was attempted in Oct '08 but dealer couldn't get it to take. I told them I'd come back and finally got the bike back to them a couple weeks ago. I have no idea if the flash was the same one they tried to do months back or if it's the latest one. Since this last reflash, the bike does run much smoother under 4K RPM. Temps used to be 190-200 on a warm day, now runs approx. 10 degrees cooler. All my bikes stay on tenders so I don't know if it had a battery charging prob. Don't know about mileage yet. The bottom line is that the bike runs better. I'm just curious as to which reflash does what. Thanks in advance for any info. |

If your dealer installed the flash it's the most current which on an 08 25R is the 05z as the digital tech only allows the latest flash. The 05z flash completely wipes any previous flash installed. |

Went to the dealer last night and found out my bike had the 04Z in it. They updated it to the 05Z and seems to run a little better but not much. I'll give it a couple of days and see what happens. |

I just had the 05Z put on as well and am now having the same bucking and surging issues that weren't present at 04Z. Then again, I think my battery was low too so it may have the corrupted download as mentioned above? I'm coming up on the 620 mile service this week. When I put it in, I'll see what they have to say. The dealer I was at yesterday was adamant that the 03z was the latest flash. I could not get them to listen to me. I'll try another dealer today. I do not know what the differences are between the 03z and the 05z. The bike seems to run fine. Off of idle is a little choppy but not terrible. Owning several air cooled V-Twins, this thing runs great in comparison. |

If your dealer installed the flash it's the most current which on an 08 25R is the 05z as the digital tech only allows the latest flash. The 05z flash completely wipes any previous flash installed. I won't argue that. However I don't believe that to be true. I say that based on my experience. My bike was flashed a few days ago and the dealer says it is showing flash 03Z. NOW this could be off base if the dealer simply assumed they installed the 03Z and did not physically check the flash #. (Message edited by puzzled on May 20, 2009) |

There is no update program published for the 05Z flash. They will not see it or know about it until the hook a bike up to Digital Tech. I had mine updated on Monday. Dyno'd before and after to compare the two flashes. I'll post up the dyno charts later, but for now here's the summary results: 03Z 124hp 68lbs torque 05Z 127hp 72lbs torque This is with 16K miles on my bike. I was very please to say the least. |

I had the 05Z downloaded 2 weeks ago, When they finished they printed a report that showed which flash was used and the part number. They did have to go to digital tech to get it because it was not in there system. Check to see if it is in there system. Give them the part number and have them look it up. Scott |
