I'm taking my 1125r off the street, and wondering if anyone makes a simple plastic block off plate for the front fairing suitable for taking up the space removing the headlights will leave.

some buell dealer made their own. but just buy some aluminum and hammer it to the shape u need. use the lights as a template.

or a english wheel.

i wouldnt pay money for something so simple to fab myself.

okay here goes.

take a rough cut out for the lights. make it larger then u need.

u have to soften the aluminum called anealing(sp?) oxy acetaline torch. turn the flame down so the aluminum gets soot on it. then turn that heat up and heat the metal untill the soot disappears. then u have soften aluminum. now u can really shape it easily. hammer that thing silly. then cut it to shape. hope this helps. thats what i would do.

i think u could use any torch possibly map or propane. im not sure though.

Ummmmm. Some of us don't work in a shop, don't have an English wheel, don't have an oxy torch.

I have a hammer.

Can I use the microwave?

If want to junk the headlights, you could cannibalize the lense, paint them whatever color you want, and use simple straps to hold them in place.

ummm or just cover the headlights with alum. foil, get some fiberglass together mix up some resin and hardener and fiber glass away! its not hard you have a template (the stockers protected with the foil) and if you mes up you can start over! and then you can fiberbondo (fiberglass mixed with bondo) them to the final shape to fit the fairing then bondo it all....

im a carpenter. so i was just throwing out there what id do. i dont have either. a person im workin/sub contracting has a oxy torch. id try a candle to get the soot on it. then use a map gas torch to burn it off. but like me i learn that trick from someone so now maybe someone can learn the trick from me. its pretty cool.

a hammer would work probably really good.

second would be fiberglass. maybe the cloth stuff with resin. the stuff that make the fancy trunk and dash boards to hold speakers.

The fiberglass sounds like a good way to go...

For me the whole reason to go down this road is to avoid having to tape, so putting plastic lenses back in the fairing isn't something I want to do.

You could try getting some thin ABS plastic and a heat gun and heating the plastic while pressing it against the front headlights to get the right shape, probably take 2 people.

Just an idea

This may be a dumb question, but if you are making it a track only bike, then why not just bolt on a race upper? It sounds like a few bolts to take off the fairing with headlights in it off and put a few bolts back on for the race faring is just as easy as all the work to block off the holes. The upper is not astronomically expensive and you have the original fairing in case you change your mind. Just my thoughts.

> then why not just bolt on a race upper

It's not a dumb question, it's a great question.

The main reason, is all the "race plastics" I'd found were $200+ for the front end, and really, I don't care about scuffing up the bike's plastic (the bike has 34,000 miles on it, and it's had plenty of rocks, bugs and chip-seal already do plenty of damage!), I just want the headlights gone!

I built my first set using a pair of 1125R headlights as parent molds. Once Henry Duga at Buell Racing made this available I bought them as they are much nicer than the one's I made and are reasonably priced at just under $50.00.

Sorry, Jdugger,
I got mine before there was a part number assigned. Since they are not listed in the newest Buell accessory book, you'll have to get hold of Henry or a dealer that is connected to Buell Racing.

Jmr1283,
Sorry for the delay, I just got back from racing at Road America!! The bike has a stock header with a Drummer race muffler and it works great, it just needs a better rider on it!

I agree with Jersey that you can cut the stock lights, I didn't have lights to start with so I bought the blanks.
