Since I work as Buell specialist in Riverside, CA..i have a slightly moded 09 1125CR...no problems till 2500+miles. Speedo/cluster goes blank to 0 and gear indicator goes to -. I have let my dealer know since im right next to service. Tt's intermittent. I do have a Jardine pro-tune 3 tuning card on and did a check on it...but it seems to happen in 3rd gear and goes away at times when shifting or turn on/off ..i wonder if its related to solenoid..failure to accelerate!..is that a code you see on display!

If anyone knows and i will have it checked this week with test ride and RPM/gear changes since it is intermittent. I am letting jardine know and may dyno/test again with mode changes, etc on tuning card. Thanks and this bike still rides strong or stronger now....the jardine CF is holding up well..no louder than before and they use race packing in these cans they tell me....I will let you know status of K&N filter soon.

I have had this problem for a long time now. My dealer has done a lot to try and fix it. Bike is going in Tuesday to get the speed sensor replaced.

Rockstar:

The 09 has a gear indicator that is not on the 08.

Unless the 08 has an 09 IC.
No other parts necessary, I had my IC replaced under warranty.
Lost info in a format I liked, but gained the gear indicator and voltmeter.

No oddities like that with either of mine, a switch died on the first one.

The IC calculates the gear with data from tach and speedo.
Anytime you have the clutch pulled in, there's an invalid rpm so you get --.

If you shift without the clutch, the gear changes very close to "real time".

My bike stopped doing the blank speedo/gear indicator now for the last week/1000+miles, but for a few months old bike/garaged and about 3500 miles/no condensation there is like peeling/white lines on speedo display under plastic lens. So eventually will have replaced and understand it may be intermittent and a Vehical speed sensor (VSS) issue from another owner on badweb.

Ive had 2 ic installed and it still goes blank here and there .Well i guess my bike will have better resale value since i have only 6000 miles registering .probably should be 10k.Ive been dealing with this for 6 months.I think its the pickup!!!

Zac - I've been able to slip the clutch in a high gear and have the gear indicator read out a lower gear, just FYI.

The gear indicator will go blank anytime the speedo does, so fixing the speedo is your problem. I would guess it's the sensor, but wouldn't be surprised if it were the IC.

Mine just started to do it last weekend . the weather was really hot and fan was on for a long time in traffic . I was thinking maybe low battery voltage . Hooked up battery tender and it was in charge mode for a long time and after that it has not happened again .

Issue is now back on my 2009 1125CR and now being investigated by shop..a new service bulletin came out for 2009 1125 built to Jan 12.2009. Dated March 3,2009.

1125 "Alternator rotor machining"-Drivabililty issues and calibration update part numbers. the purpose of this revision is to correctly identify the calibration update part numbers and purpose: Incomplete machining of the teeth on the alternator rotor may lead to a synchronous error with the crank position sensor(CKP) that can cause drivability issues. New calibration has been implemented on production line which provides diagnostic capability to identify sync error cause by incompletely machined rotor teeth. New calibration also provides continued drivability improvements.

If your having an issue check with your service dept/dealership.

Regards,

Rob

Thanks Mark. I hope its something simple..or this rotor thing.....its annoying and losing the mileage data also. Getting tickets and going way to fast without knowing is my excuse now. Hope your bike is all good now.

I have been having this problem since I got the bike. at it's 620 mile, I had them look at it but because it is intermittent, it didn't happen when they rode it around the block.

However, last week as I hit 900 miles, the speedo went blank for longer than usual. After a few minutes, I got a CEL. A few seconds after that I got a speed sensor error message.

Hopefully, this will help them to get the damn thing fixed.

I am assuming that error messages are stored. Is this correct?

took it into the local HD shop... got a new sensor in 3 days (still rode it.. heheheh) and we have not had the same problem... 4k later...
