Yup! Been there done it. IIRC, the dealer submits the work to Buell and Buell pays the dealer. So unless I'm wrong, even tho you're not paying for the work, you're still supporting the best Buell dealer in our area hands down. |

If we had to survive on Buell sales, we could not support one master tech, store rent, a sales magr/finance guy and a parts person and a workable inventory of service parts and accessories. And we are the leading Buell dealership in our multi-state district.
Hey, I bargain shop as much as the next guy on commodity stuff, no reason to pay more for an off the shelf item than you have to. But people often do not understand the business model and costs associated with a dealership yet they boast how Buell should break away sales from Harley dealers and hostile postings and rants among some BWBers paint a very inhospitable picture. I have no sympathy for dealers who do not value the brand and make the changes necessary to properly sell and service Buells but do not believe for a minute that existing present day Buell dealers do not have a huge financial commitment in carrying the brand.
Yet some would have us selling tires at cost and mounting them by some high school employee on antiquated equipment or charging half the going rate for services and diagnosis that is required to support proper training and equipment. Some begrudge us making a decent living believing things should be near free. Others cannot understand why 3 hours of time is required to do a proper dyno tune on a bike that has had ECM Spy twiddled changes made on it.
At High Country H-D/Buell we ride Buells, own Buells, and race Buells, not just sell them at bargain back-door prices. Our service department often fixes bargain dealer screw ups.
Do we charge a fair and appropriate price?
Wouldn't you? Do you go to a bargain alley surgeon for heart surgery?

Some folks here 'get it' that a GOOD dealer is worth the higher cost. It's that 'total value/customer experience' thing.

Some folks never 'get it'. Same folks who try on helmets for size and comfort at the local dealer then go buy one online. When the dealre shuts down where you gonna go to find the right fit?? |

A Harley-Davidson Certified Master Tech is working on finishing up a complete engine rebuild on a Harley when the customer, an accomplished and Board Certified heart surgeon walks in to check on the progress of his bike.
The two get to talking, and the Technician asks,
"Hey doc, I don't get it. You and I do pretty much the same thing. I take this 'heart', tear it all apart, clean up the valves, put it back together and it runs like new."
The doctor quietly agrees. The technician then asks, "So why is it you make millions and I make peanuts?"
The doctor ponders the question for a moment, and then responds, "Try doing it while the engine is running."
On a serious note, there are things I bargain hunt for, and there are things I pay more for. My dealer is pretty good (I think they've been better in the past, but still WAY better others around), and they charge MSRP for everything. That's how it goes. I get other favors from them, because EVERYONE there knows me by name and knows that I've bought 3 bikes in 5 years from them. |

I vacillated on whether or not to post my thoughts, not wanting to sound like a rant, nor enable responses from legions who "don't get it". I am not surprise but rather very pleased, no, proud of those who responded here and the manner in which they did. It are these type of customers I work hard to get my organization to strive to please in how we do our business.
