Painter's tape or remove the bulbs. |

DO NOT tape over the light if it has not been disabled in some fashion. The heat from the light will fuse the tape to the glass and you will be buying a new HL assy. |

Not true if you use the blue painters tape--at least in moderate ambient temps. |

Painter's tape, the blue kind, works fine in TX. 3 Trackdays with the lights on last year, no goo to remove at the end of the day. I wouldn't recommend using any OTHER kind of tape than painter's tape though. e.g. Duct tape WILL leave goo that is a real PITA to clean off. |

Yeah - but you gotta check the label of the blue tape. There are imitators out there now. Stay with the 3M "Safe Release" tape. I see both 3M AND "Brand X" blue tape in Lowes. Don't know that the brand x is bad - I just tend to stick with what works and a roll of tape is NOTHING compared to the other expenses of a track day! The Inside Pass bikes kept the lights on - seemed to be OK but I'd unplug them if I could... not sure why you can't unplug the fuse unless the ignition is on the same circuit. |

Never thought about the tape brand honestly. I always go with the 3M because it's what I always use. I like Tim's way of unplugging the connector and will have to do that this year. Nothing worse than going through Tech to be told you need MORE tape because your light's are too bright. |

What is the big deal about seeing the lights anyway? how is that harmful? |

My experience shows that the starter circuit is on the same fuse with the headlights. |

It's not about seeing lights, it is about containing the shattered glass and or plastic in case of a crash. |

I understand the glass thing. That makes sense, but I have had them tell me to put more tape to cover up the lights better. I have also been to trackdays where they don't make you cover up lenses unless they are glass--plastic can go uncovered. |

The need for covering the lights is so they don't shatter and leave shards all over the track. That being said, the brake light always need to be covered so as to not be visible. |

Doing a track day next week. Why shouldn't we disconnect the headlight fuse? That's what I was planning on doing... If not that then just disconnect the headlights from the wiring harness??? |

The starter circuit is on the same fuse as the headlamp. Pull the fuse and the bike won't start. Right behind the headlamp on the underside is the connector for the headlamps. Just unplug it. Then the starter works just fine and there is no issue with the tape. |
