I have a 2009 1125R, and since new I've averaged 35 mpg according to the instrument cluster. It seems to be pretty close by measuring the tripmeter against the gallons filled at the gas station.

What are others showing for average mpg? I've seen quite a few with higher numbers than me.

I figure with riding gear I'm probably around 190 lbs. I don't cruise in top gear, but I'm not racing either, on mixed highway and backroads.

With the airbox open, on my normal commute, which is in town, I am consistently getting a pen and paper verified 27 MPG. With the airbox on and traveling @ hwy speeds with a group, I'm getting 35-37 MPG.

This is on a CR, my commute is lots of stop and go, and I tend to ride like an @$$hole. Or an Idiot. Take your pick!

I just got about 37 MPG on spirited ride this afternoon. I typically get around 35MPG or a bit less, but I recently got her out of the shop and they might have had a positive effect.

I ride about 50-50 street/highway and I consider myself to be a mostly conservative rider, with brief binges of exhilaration here and there. I often see a marked difference between what the cluster says and what I observe with the "odo divided by the pump" method.

The cluster almost always reads between 38-40 at the end of the tank. It has gone as low as 36 and as high as 45.

When I divide the odometer by the number of gallons I've just bought, it's USUALLY around 40 (+/-1), but on occasion it's as low as 35. It's never gotten to 42. It's almost always a little a little lower, and sometimes a lot lower, than what the cluster says.

Just did a 200 mile spirited ride today and got 31 MPG. Although I am not running a stock Flash.

Casual commuting almost all the time I see about 32-34 mpg on my R.

I'm getting low 40s on my CR. I ride spirited, but almost never go to redline or WOT. I also tend to short shift which helps a lot.

So I suppose my 35 mpg isn't too far off from average. Although it does seem that there is very little consistency in mileage from the posts above.

True --- there IS a wide range of likely fuel economy values. But the same is true of a single bike, with a single rider, riding for economy vs. riding for excitement. You can verify that by switching the cluster to read Instant MPG for a while. I can cruise around all day in the 50-60 mpg range, but when I dig the spurs in, it's 10-20. You pay for the good time.

Heck I can even hit 70 mpg on a good down hill. LOL

No two riders will get the exact same mileage. There are two many variables.

One of the guys Ride with has a completely stock 1125r with third flash. He averaged 33 MPG on our last ride while I averaged 31 following him.

I hope they/someone can figure out this fuel mileage issue. I love my 25r and won't get rid of it but if there is one thing that bothers me about the bike it's the fuel mileage. I got 45mpg on my Firebolt on average which actually was the lowest of the last 3 sportbikes I've owned.

In my opinion, we should be getting at least 45mpg on average all the time. I mean hell, my car gets 32 mpg and weighs 2700 lbs. The fuel thing just seems to be way off.

Usmoto,

Your car probably does not get 32mpg.
That said, a liquid cooled V-Twin bike that weighs 375lbs dry should be getting great MPG, but not as good as an IL4. If optimally tuned (not overfueled), I think they could squeeze 40/60 city highway

My wife's car get's 47 mpg on the highway (diesel), but it takes 11 seconds to reach 60 mph. My FZ1 gets around 39 mpg average, and most people I know with sport/faster bikes get in the upper 30 mpg range. If you want mileage, you can't expect top performance.

I believe you when you say your car gets 32 mpg, Usmoto.

I think it's funny when I go past a Prius and think that I'm getting worse mileage on a tiny little bike, but that's a fair trade for not driving a fagmobile.

Yeah, it's too bad they can't make those Prius' look a little more sporty. I'd love to have one for the mpg but they are kinda ugly. Oh well.

Clark, why is it hard to believe my car gets 32mpg? There are a bunch of cars on the road that get in the 30's.

I'm hoping there's a flash fix or something in the future that will get our 25r's some more mpg's. Until then, ride on and go USA!!

No Problem.

Short shift in every gear, stay under 20-30% throttle opening, and keep it under 5k RPM.

I think you can probably use some tuning software to reset the limits in the ECM, so you don't have to think about driving like a pu$$y.

Good deal Chevy, awesome pic Ron
That's what I'm talkin' about.

The bottom line is that we all love our Buells and want only the best for 'em like children. I'm a very patriotic guy and to me one of the best bikes on the planet is a Buell. I'm glad to be a part of our big Buell family. Anyone going to the WV Buell Rally in August? Hope to see ya there.

USA Baby!!

Ron, I wish I could see the other side of your bike in that turn. I am curious to see how close the lower peg is to the asphalt. Any issues so far with peg dragging?

I would argue that your 45mpg figure on your 12R was lo compared to the 50 average, and the 65 highway I got on mine.

There are a TON of variables to gas mileage, and when we're all on the same vehicle, they way you drive it plays a huge role.

Try following the factory shift point and you'll see your MPG jump up.

Your car might get 32mpg, but it likely won't go 170mph, get to 60 in 3 seconds, or make 130hp per liter (or whatever it is).

Fresno: no problems so far with pegs dragging. The only other picture from that day was taken from the outside of the turn as well, so it doesn't reveal anything either. I'd like to know how close they were too, because until you mentioned it I hadn't even considered that they may have been close to touching. I think there may still have been a lot of room, but can't say for sure.

Yeah, i hear ya. It's not like you can see down there. I know the feeling. It would be nice to know sometimes but short of a picture or eyewitness testimony, it's pretty much impossible.

Obviously, I am curious as I am looking at the lowered pegs.

Can you tell me if they are more rear set than the stockers? If you can't remember, the stockers come out nearly straight from the bracket.

PS nice pic!

Also, would you mind measuring from the frame (not bracket) to the end of the peg?
