Hello, i own 2 Buell x1 and think about buying a 1125R now, i have a great offer for a damaged one, he says, the bike runs and rides, only minor damage, the problem, the bike is located in Florida and i am in Indiana, so i cannot have a look at it myself. Perhaps you guys can have a look at the attached picture (i know, it's always a risk to purchase a bike you haven't seen / done a test ride in person, but it would be a bargain....) Thanks....

Does the bike have a clear title? If it has been ruled "salvage," you might have lots of problems with it. Here in Florida, if it's a salvage title, you can't make it street-legal again. Where is it in Florida? (Message edited by vanvideo on February 13, 2009) |

Also, I notice the scrape on the swingarm at the axle bolt. My XB had that same damage, and the HD techs had a hell of a time removing the bolt. I guess the threads were all messed up. They said the next time I had to change a tire, the bolt might come off, or it might not. In that case, they'd recommend a new swingarm. |

well, it has a CD title (salvage title) i already contacted the BMV here, and all i have to do is to replace the broken parts, take pictures before and after the fix and bring the receipts from the replacement parts and i get a rebuilt title.... My bigger concern is the cover.... and the parts inside....(Crankshaft ???) |

Depending on where it's at in FL, you might be better served asking in the corresponding Stormfronts section for someone to go look at it for you? Looks like it slid pretty well on the side. Working from memory (flawed at best) I 'think' you're looking at ~$300+ for all the new parts on the clutch area. Pod is ~$50 to replace. Swingarm is ~$300+ It looks like the frame is just cosmetic, but I'd want a set of eyes I trusted to look at it for me. YMMV and the $'s posted above are guesses based on my faulty memory, so please take it with a grain of salt. |

That is not the clutch cover but it is the stator cover. |

That's what I get for a lack of sleep & not enough coffee. c'est la vie. Anway you look at it though, I'm 'guessing' around $700+ in new parts if you can't touch up/fix. If you're seriously considering it, then ask for someone to go look at it for you so you KNOW what you're getting yourself into before you write the check. |

cd certificate of destruction is different than a salvage title in florida. you will have to go to indiana's dmv to be clear on title issue if you want to get it on the road there. please don't leave it to a dealer to tell you one way or another. a salvage title can be put back on the road in florida but a certificate of destruction will never be street legal in florida again. |

Boogieman, thanks for the info on Fla. titles. I think I'll just stay away from any bike with a salvage/cd title. Unless I need a track bike. |

How did that swingarm damage happen unless the passenger peg support bent in... and how did that bend in without damaging the rear subframe? And that subframe probbaly doesn't "bend", it probably shears parts. On the other hand, $4000 to your door leaves you a lot to fix a lot, and these bikes bounce pretty well. I will say, based on my experience buying a parts bike and merging it with a beat up runner... if you are looking at it as a $$ thing, no price is too low. By the time you dismantle, repair, chase down parts, install, remove, correct, debug, reinstall, reorder, rebend, and repaint... only to still have issues with the final result... they should probably be paying *you* to take it. I kinda like all that stuff, and my new Buell has been reliable enough to embarrass a Honda, so I enjoyed all the wrenching. Just a data point to take into consideration... |

If you make sure the there no title issues in your state and maybe if you can find someone in florida that is willing to go by and look at it for you then $4000 to your door is a sweet deal. |

well, i know, i've rebuilt a Yamaha YZF 1000R Thunderace years ago back in Germany, replaced even the frame and the swing arm...well, was a lot of work but also a lot of fun (and beer involved with my buddy)...and i am planning to customize this bike anyway.... as long as the frame is o.k. it's always possible (if you spend enough time and money) to do a decent work.... |

the swingarm part is, i guess easy to explain, the passenger pegs aren't real rigid, they've bent to the inside while the swingarm was up....i don't think this should be affect the subframe...(but of course....you never know for sure until you work on the bike....) |

".......COD's kill the title in Florida but some states will reissue but it can not be bought back to Florida even with the other state title. It will be kicked as soon as you try to title it here. But you can leave the out of state tag on it......." just have to find someone at the BMV here who can give me details..(but they are all "busy" right now....lazy Morons) |

alright, i called the local BMV and they told me, this is no problem, just replace the damaged parts, have it documented (pictures / receipts) and i can get it titled again |

Post on the stormfronts forum or on General Discussion to find someone in the area. Since yo are a member of the BWB you can also look at the BRAN on the topics page and see if someone is close. Most BadWebbers, speaking for myself, would be willing to have a look if it wasn't too far away. Later Neil S. |

fixed worse. you need to make sure that the shock mount on the frame isn't cracked or broke off. might have to take the seat off to see clearly. subframe is probably tweaked. have the good samaritan take a good look at front end straightness to frame. tim |
