Here is how Sam and I did his tail chop without using any extra materials besides what is on the bike
using the reflector bracket.
We did not use any other parts other than a couple of nuts and bolts. |

That is awesome Neil/Sam!...so much cheaper , clean and nicer than those expensive fender eliminator kits...its that midwest/east coast thinking..and when its getting colder back east!..I was thinking along the same lines...and I to think I work at a Large HD/Buell dealership as the Buell specialist...lol! in so cal...see what happens we think slower now..... and are you gonna get rear turn signals or the one piece kit!...thats what I am thinking...I applaud you. Hey that looks great...a true MacGyver solution to an ugly tail. Now if you could only sell the design to a company in china...I would pay 20 bucks for it. Oh I am so sorry I can't believe I let that slip out.

I can't believe Ninjas are this slow, They were sent out to Mike's house at least 3 days ago. No offence Mike but they only cost $20. Its much cheaper when you contract out of Malaysia, A little young but they get the job right %75 of the time and you know out sourcing these days is the new economy... |

Good idea, just need to do something with the holes where the original tail was, so it'll look like less of a hack job. |

Looks GREAT! With the money you saved it looks like it's getting to be time for a new rear shoe..... The problem I have with doing a similar conversion is that I full time on mine, and that means occasionally I have to ride home in the wet/rain. That ****ing little ugly piece of plastic is remarkably effective at keeping the road schmeg off of my back. Your mod looks great! Rob |

Neil/Sam- Can't tell from the pics, but would it be possible to flip the piece you chopped off the tail the other way? I was thinking that would cover the majority of the holes in the underside of the tail. Also, is that middle section truly a different shade (different material or something?) from the rest of the underside, or is it just in need of a cleaning? |

Ponti1 I don't think it would fit the other way very easily due to the way it's curved. I don't think we really tried though. We kind of scraped it up while figuring out what to do with it, and it needs something done with the holes. Also a nice coat of flat paint or something. Okay...Thanks for the response! I really like the looks of what you've done, so I may have to play with mine a bit and see if any options pop into my head... |

I'm working on my tail chop now also...Thanks for the inspiration go get off my a$$. I am wondering what products out there are best to use to fill in the two large holes in the factory tail plate? (Message edited by ponti1 on December 14, 2008) |

theres lots of different two part epoxies that work great. you just mash um together and fill the holes. U can sand it smooth. also if u attach something behind the holes u could use bondo(spelling) then paint it. I used jb weld epoxy and if i remember it wasnt black but quiet dark. almost black. good luck |

Buell race support offers a license plate bracket eliminator for race bikes, track day prep, etc. L0040.08AZ A shaped vac formed plastic plate with just the depressions for the three mount holes. It's on the track day bike, and the Rossmeyer Moto-ST bike on the IMS tour. |

Thanks for the info, Anony! I don't see that in my parts/accessories catalog... What's the price on something like that, and are there any pics (other than searching for the Rossmeyer bike)? |
