Greetings from east-central Pennsylvania. I’m new here and today I picked up my first Buell. I’m one of the transplants from the Japanese I4 sport bike realm. I’m still getting used to the handling, although I can say already that it is much more stable in the twisties than my former motorcycle and the power delivery speaks for itself. I look forward to taking it to the track next season. The only more major problem I encountered was a stuck throttle when accelerating hard in third gear from around 3000 to about 6000rpm. I had planned to back off at 6000rpm until I noticed with wide eyes (the sound itself was actually great!) that the tach needle kept rising until it was bouncing off the rev limiter (not so great). I depressed the clutch lever and was able to free the stuck throttle after a couple of seconds and after having hit the kill switch. I don’t know if the cable or the butterfly valve itself was what stuck. In any case, I tried a couple of times to replicate the stuck throttle while on a back road and everything worked fine. Is a stuck throttle a known problem with any of the 1125r’s (this one was built in January, 2008)? Since it’s new I’ll just take it to the dealership and ask them to check the settings, for any binding, and to lube the cable. I also encountered the solenoid cutting the throttle in third gear, although I had read of this here and have already ordered the Buell part to fix this. If I were to simply connect the new part and keep the solenoid cable connected to the throttle linkage, would there even be a need to safety wire the throttle linkages together? I’m not too tech savvy, so I’m not sure if I understood the posts I searched for clearly. In any case, thanks for your patience with my questions. I look forward to putting many miles on the new Buell and have already felt the urge to “name” her! Brice |

Congratulations, hope you like your new toy! Yes get it checked out at the dealer so they have it documented in writing and get it fixed for you. The solenoid eliminator resistor does not require you to remove the cable, solenoid or lock the throttle. You can just connect the resistor and enjoy! |

BUell throttles will stick at full steering lock, but I doubt it stuck at full lock during your episode...so the best thing is to take it to your dealer....how is the cable routed? Any binding? |

I'd recommend disconnecting the cable from the solenoid to the throttle bodies. Its an easy and relatively painless process. I don't know if your dealer will remove it for you or not, but the lack of throttle at 3-6000 rpm is directly attributed to the solenoid. Remove the solenoid, install the plug in the wire harness and you're good to go. |

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll take Buell in tomorrow. As of now the cable doesn't appear to be routed incorrectly or binding but, since the bike is new, I'll let the dealer worry about it...haha. |

Keep us posted on what the problem is...as far as I know this is the first of its kind that has been reported on Badweb |

Make sure the IAC hose is pulled up through the air box base with 10 mm protruding, as it can interfere if not correctly positioned. |

Probably just a mis adjusted or frayed throttle cable. Easy fix. (Message edited by reepicheep on September 25, 2008) |

Hey Brice, welcome! Wow, an actual former owner of IL4 Japanese bikes... I would think this is a vestigial market segment for Buell, so you are one rare creature. And, how many actual Orthodox Priests ride? Catholic Priests I can understand (anything to keep any urges at bay). I was baptized Greek Orthodox... I still remember it, priest had freezing cold hands and I was naked. Might explain why I'm Agnostic now!! Anyhow, can't imagine the Orthodox dude riding, since the gown does not seem de rigeur for sportbiking. |

Thanks for the welcome, Pariah. Yes, my schedule might not be the most typical: baptism, Divine Liturgy, council meeting, track day,... And starting a special clothing line focusing on kevlar-lined and padded priest cassocks would probably not be too profitable seeing that none of my brother priests around here ride, at least. They do find it amusing, however. In any case, I do enjoy riding motorcycles. It's a practice in discipline and, when riding with those much more skilled than I, an excellent opportunity to learn some humility! I took the bike to the dealer today to address the throttle issue. I too hope it's a simply a minor cable problem. |

You're absolutely right--- I agree that riding (especially skilled riding) is a demanding discipline--- spiritual in nature, not unlike martial arts. There's a Zen quality to it. There you are, partly in control, partly not in control, totally in the present. Or, you had better be! It's very much like life itself. I think that's a large part of the attraction for me. The draw to ride is difficult to verbalize... I've tried explaining it to my wife... you feel more alive, you come to a better understanding of life and death, you... (by this time she has ceased listening)... and, I digress. Good luck getting that throttle fixed! |

I picked up the 1125r today from the dealership. They were able to repeat the stuck throttle while riding the motorcycle. The throttle butterfly valve was what was sticking--not the cable. It appears as though it was installed incorrectly at the factory. The techs took photographs and documented everything to send to Buell headquarters. In any case, all seems good at the moment. Thank you all again for your advice. I would like to think that this is an isolated incident since I haven't read of any others experiencing this. |

Mine got stuck once although i put it down to the butterflies frozen open as it was -6 degrees celcius and i was just cruisin into work at around 130kph, pulled the clutch in gave it a blip to full throttle and it freed it has never happened again. The solenoid has since been removed and the linkages safety wired Brett |
