The '09 Owner's Manual is available for down loading in the owner's section of the Buell website. It's been interesting browsing through it. One big difference is the suspension setting tables vs. the '08 models. They are much firmer. Somebody here had already mentioned that the suspension setting tables went firmer in the '08 service manual. The '09 owner's manual matches these. Have the spring rates changed since the '08 bikes started building? The reason I ask, is that the recommended settings in the '08 owner's manual are plenty firm for my bike. This is the first bike that I have owned that I have actually gone softer than the factory recommended. If I were to use the newer settings I would get no spring action at all. It was noted during the early Inside Pass rides, and the pre-production press rides, that final spring rate was undergoing some revision at that time. I wonder if there has been a change during the production run, and who would know...? Jack |

JP, good questions. If I went with the Service manual settings, my suspension wouldn't move. SOmething is up here...but again, it seems to be a mystery that's up to us to solve. Similar settings between the 08 SM and 08 OM show weights for riders 100 pounds different. In a specific example. ?????????? |

More than likely I'll bet they changed the spring rate(s) for '09. |

Firmer? I have mine set per factory settings, and I think the rear compression is a little stiff for my delicate hiney. |

More than likely I'll bet they changed the spring rate(s) for '09. But JP has stated that the 09 OM settings are the same as the 08 SM settings...so did they change the springs in the middle of the MY08? (as JP questioned) Thinking about it, one of largest discrepancies is on the rear shock (rebound I think)...so why would this be? Did they change the rear spring too?} |

Maybe since the SM was made available so late they decided to put just the '09 settings in it. We can only ponder and won't know for sure unless anonymous chimes in..... (Message edited by xb9 on September 15, 2008) |

Hmmmm....I think customer service will be called as soon as I get out of my meeting this morning...after all this is the FIRST model year, so pretty much everyone has to use the factory recommended settings at least as a starting point--until someone with expertise can give us alternatives, but more importantly it could be a safety issue...the SM settings (all springs being equal) are stiff enough to be dangerous to the rider. |
