I have about 300 miles on the Conti's now, so thought I would share my impressions. Like any new set of tires, turn in is improved over the worn C3's, and the bike holds lines with less effort. Blame that on the squared off rear, as the Corsa's do well also when new. At any rate, they are equal to the Pirelli's in this area. As far as grip goes, I will have a better impression after my trip to the mountains next month. However, I have been edge to edge on some of the back roads I ride - my first impression is that the Corsa 3's are superior in this department. Not that the Conti's don't stick - they do - but they a feel a little looser than the Pirelli's at full lean. My primary reason for trying them is to find a sticky tire that will give better mileage than the 2500 miles I was getting from the rears on the Pirelli's. I will let you know how that goes. If they don't perform in that area, I will be trying the new Battlax and the Power Sport 2CT until I find the sweet spot for me and my riding style. Jack | ||

Have you tried the Dunlap Qualifier? I tried them on my S2, got great wear and the grip was good. Scott | ||

Thanks for the report. I was seriously giving some thought to trying them on the advise of guy with a Uly that I have ridden with. I had Michelin's on my XB9S and loved them. So I think I am going that route on my next set. I really do not like the Corsa III's. | ||

Scott, I tried the Qualifiers on my VFR. They were a good tire, but got less mileage than the Michelin Powers that I had been running before that. Jack | ||

I'm still working on the Diablo Rosso that I threw on the rear. Only about 500 miles so far, but am very pleased so far. Seem to stick about as well as the Corsa III, and are showing almost no wear at this point. | ||

I will have the new Bridgestone BT-016s on in the next couple weeks. The Corsa IIIs are good tires, but I think like the Metzler M3s better. I wanted to stay with another multi-compound, hence the Bridgestones....how long is it going to take for Metzler to develop a multi-compound sportbike tire? I am waiting.... | ||

Hey Ken, I'm curious as to what you don't like about the Pirellis? I haven't heard too much evil spoken about them except for the low wear/mileage you can expect. I'm thinking (IMHO) that they have a very secure grip and feel to them for all around wet or dry riding. Admittedly, I haven't "tracked" this bike yet, so I can't speak to the upper end of handling, but, really like em' so far, and, especially when leaned over! Just wanted to get your thoughts..... Well they grip alright but do not inspire confidence in corners for me. I had the same problem with some Avon Sport Touring I was running on my XB9S. After I switched to the Michelin Pilot Roads on the XB9S the bike gripped and cornered like a dream. Best I can describe it is the Corsa III's feel slippery when cornering. | ||

Best I can describe it is the Corsa III's feel slippery when cornering. Really? I think the Corsa III grips like flypaper. I have not felt better DOT tires, but only changed so I could try to get a little longer life. | ||

Hey again Ken, I guess I haven't experienced the "slippery" part of the Corsa's yet..... I've never owned the Avon's, but, have certainly owned a LOT of Michelin's and totally agree with you on them! I particularly like the Pilot's. They've got a great feel and grip to them. I'll almost always opt for the stickier version of a tire with less expectation for long wear life, in favor of more grip. I probably don't clock quite as many miles as many of the guys on here, which is another reason that the wear trade-off works for me. I suppose I wouldn't feel the way I do if I had to replace tires as frequently as they do. It definitely gets expensive to replace quality tires! I was just a little surprised with your observation of the Pirelli's. I'm pretty impressed with them so far, of course, that may change as I build more miles on them. Stay safe, Tracy | ||

With a few more heat cycles on the tires, and putting the tire pressures by the book (34F,36R) the Contis have lost the looseness that I thought I was feeling at full lean. I am also happy with the compliance (ride) of the tire - not as harsh as the Corsa 3's. Three more weeks until the mountain trip. That will prove the pudding... Jack |
