I've got ~1300 miles on mine and the seat is starting to warp and lift up and away on the sides where it meets up against the air box and the frame rails. Left side front is up over a 1/2" from the frame rail, right side is up about 3/8". This is after the bike has cooled down and I'm not sitting on the seat. (I weigh about 180). Seat is clipped in correctly. Anyone else having this issue? |

Hi Flh03rider, Yeah, I think mine's doing it a bit too, although, not to the extreme yours is. I noticed it yesterday when I was installing the frame, fork, and swingarm sliders to it. I added an airbox mask to mine right after I got it, which, also tends to space the seat up off the airbox just a little bit. You're right though, it's definitely warping up from heat. Have you contacted Odie from our forum? He's makes underseat heat barriers for many Buells, and is templating ours as we speak. He should be starting to produce them this coming week. (if I understood him correctly) He has been making these "heat barriers" for the firebolts and other buells for quite some time, and now, the 1125R too. They're approx. $25.00 +/-. In the meantime, have you considered removing the seat, flipping it upside down, and using a heatgun to (judiciously) "warp" the seat sides back into shape? That's what I'll probably do when I remove mine to install the heat barrier. Let me know how it goes..... Tracy P.S., I've only got approx. 800 mi. on mine. If I could keep the freakin' battery alive on this bike long enough not to have to plug the battery tender in every night, that would be a feat! Then I could actually ride it...... |

I'll have to check in with Odie about heat barrier. Thanks for the tip. The seat really needs some clips up front to hold it in. LOL, I'm on my third battery since getting the bike the 1st of June. It had the current flash and three days after having it the check engine and battery light came on, along with the low voltage message on the display. Took it back to the dealer they checked for error codes, found none, but replaced the battery. I started checking the battery voltage every night and was losing about .4 - .5 volts every 12 to 14 hours when I wasn't riding it and it wasn't on the tender. Then at the end of June I just happened to try the horn and it blew a 10A fuse for the horn and brake light. It also effected the speedo and odometer. Turned out to be a short down at the horn. While in the shop for the blown fuse issue they replaced the battery yet again. I've been going very two or three days now before I put it on the tender. Rode it yesterday, put 40+ miles on it and checked the voltage tonight, it was at 12.85 volts without being on the tender. |

Hey Flh03rider, It sounds like you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about! Out of curiousity, (keeping in mind that this is the first and ONLY Buell I've ever owned) why do we put up with all this crap??? Are we gluttons for punishment, or, just hopeful that the bike will become all we've ever hoped it would be through osmosis, or better yet, are we just maliciously blind to the truth that the japanese STILL build a better product? I'm not sure what the hell is wrong with me, but after two months of ownership, the problems with this bike are mounting daily, and yet, I LOVE THIS BIKE!?!?!?!? Is it a Buell thing, or what??? Stay safe, Tracy |

Tracy, Yep, must be a BUELL thing! Ever since I saw the 12Rs I wanted one but the cockpit conditions were just a little too cramped for me. I'm 6'1". The 1125Rs longer wheel base and lower foot pegs I put on it make a huge difference. Shiny side up !!! |

My first Buell too Tracy. What you said was more or less the basis for my thread; Why?(Where Do We Learn?) But some of the great guys here reassured me that it's not that bad. I like the bike so I'm in for the long haul. My seat's doing the same. I didn't realize to I read this tread. My battery's been good (knock on wood), but I've had to tap both rivnuts for the seat screws. Why not 6mm. threaded rod with a small hole for a hairpin clip? It'd be quicker especially at night. Where can I purchase the heat barrier designed by Odie? Sounds like a good deal. |

Hi Palerider, Odie runs a biz called "Special Ops", and he advertises here on our forum. I think He also chimed in (about two posts right above you) on this thread! He's great at returning emails considering how busy he is. Give him a shout. Looks like his heat barrier for our bike will be ready to go this coming week. I also liked your idea of a quick-release setup for the seat mounting screws. It sounds like a winner! I might even try something like that. Lovin it-hatin it. What else can I say? It's my baby..... Stay safe, Tracy |

Odie, do you by chance have a heat barrier that fits a Triumph Daytona675? I could sure use one down here in the Florida heat. |

Mainstreamer- if you would make me a template I could easily make one for you. I will need some good close up pics also. Socoken- yes Sir. I am waiting for some pics from a customer or two so I can post them up but it is ready. It is similar to the new, larger R & S seat barriers (which I need to get pics posted up on the website still). It is $45 plus $4.80 USPS Priority shipping. |
