I am doing a track day at Mid-Ohio on the 28th of July. The bike has 300 miles on it now and buy the end of next week it should have over 400 miles. I am going to change the oil before I go to the track. My question is, am I going to hurt anything buy not getting 620 miles on it before I start pushing it? I think it will be ok because I have done very well I have only had it to 7000 rpm once. I will be replacing the oil and filter with Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50. By the way I am no Ben Spies so I won't be pushing it very hard on the track. |

I changed my oil at 500 miles, and immediately took it to Arkansas....ran the twisties HARD for 450 miles (in one day) and its still running fine with over 3500 on it. |

I ran mine hard after 600 miles 2800 and ok runs even better with some miles on her.Ride her hard !!!!! she'll treat ya good |

Change your oil/filter and beat the ever loving piss out of it!!!! Seriously, you won't hurt anything. you will probably make it run better if anything.... |

I vote drive the piss out of it. I have only broke a few bikes in the way they recommend and most I have driven like I owned for years right off the bat and there is no difference and maybe an advantage to aggressive early miles in my opinion. |

You ever known anyone who works in the "big rig" field? When they re-build those giant diesels motors they fire her up, let her warm up and drive straight over to the dyno where they proceed to beat the piss out of it for a couple hours straight. and well how many miles do you see those engines getting..........half a million or so (of course all depending on the year and model, damn EPA!) I have a few friends in that field and they have all said, if its going to break its going to break on the dyno right then and there. they want to make sure the client gets a reliable motor when they are done. So i say, let her warm up and beat the piss out of her :-) |

Yeah, change the oil and filter in it before the track day and you'll be fine. Have fun at the track! It was a new experience for me to be full tuck at 150 mph.

there are differing opinions on how to properly break in an engine. i have honestly heard it half and half for going by the recommended 'babying' of a new engine... and the other half saying just beat the piss out of it right off the dealer lot.. i did mine per the 1125 owners manual...just my personal choice. when you change the oil the first time, you should be looking for fine metal specks on the drain plug magnet. if you have that, you broke it in correctly.. if you have chunks then you beat it too harshly. on the diesel note... diesels are built and assembled differently than gassers. even the owners manual for light duty diesels(cummins, powerstrokes, duramaxes) do not call for a break in period.. the manual states that you can use your vehicle at full capacity right from the beginning. in general, if your gasser's engine was designed to handle 19(or more) to 1 compression PLUS forced induction like its diesel counterpart... it would not need to be broken in. |

My truck is a 2006 and in less than 2 years on the road she's got 279k on the od. |

Maybe i should have been clearer. I do not think its wise to beat the piss out of her until after a few hundred miles and a fresh oil and filter change......then beat the piss out of her :-) and yea, you are right about the compression. but even my little Volkswagen diesel had a break in period... And true badlionsfan, but from what i gather the EGR equipped new engines get less mileage due to the higher running temps. but still......its a lot of miles wither way :-) |
