My crazy job has me doing a ton of international travel - so doing almost zero riding. I am scheduled to get the oil recall done on 7/10 - but that isn't even a problem as I don't get back on the same continent as my bike until 7/9. Last I did ride her, she still had the surging issue (between 3-4K - all gears). Those that have also had that problem (but are now happy) - what happened? Did your bikes suddenly get smarter and richen up in that RPM range? Anything I should consider doing? Thanks, |

I've had mine in to two different dealers for the same issue - they did some data logging and sent it off to the factory, and also checked everything under the sun and found nothing. A week later I got word that Buell has finally put their finger on the root cause and there will be a fix soon. What exactly it is, mums the word. It's not the fuel mapping. I'm just sitting tight with my 02 sensors disconnected (no closed loop operation) waiting for the fix. Here's a link to my last post on another thread - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=290431&post=1180214#POST1180214 |

Not sure, but mine just gradually smoothed out. It's not "perfect" by any means, but no bike is down low. |

As the EPA restrictions on emissions tighten, we will see more and more of these driveability problems, especially if you choose to build something without a catalytic converter. There is no substitute for custom tuning an engine to make it run perfect. Designers have to make compromises to meet the tests and production variances. This bike will run very nicely down low, but not in stock form. |

I totally agree Dave, and as I have experienced, we can make them perform great even with emissions if we know just what to do. You and others are really helping us understand just what to do and it will even be easier in a place like here where we do not have emissions testing on bikes. |

I have to disagree I got headers and a supertrapp exhaust and my bike runs and sounds awesome. |

WHoa!! Headers for the 1125R?! Any pictures, or info on where to pick those up? |

My opinion, changing the exhaust or intake without matching it to the mapping is like starting a project and stopping half way. The job is not finished. A proper custom tuning will change your mind on what 'awesome' is I've done several bikes with a wide band controller and am amazed at the difference. Best bang for your buck or time. |

XB9 you are right but there is no way of tuning the motor and is why I went with supertrapp so the exhaust could be tuned to the bike, the race tuner that buell has cost 700 dollars and you need a labtop to go with it and a race license to buy it, I just read some were that they only gained 8 HP with it and the mid range was bad, I now will wait for an aftermarket tuner, there is something on ebay but the guy does not know if it will work on the 1125R but works with all the other XB bikes. check it out and let me know thence you know so much about this and I do not and could use the help. Mustangturbo the headers come off of the stock ones so it is a three piece set up and yes pictures are coming but that is all I can say. |

"there is no way of tuning the motor" that is no longer a true statement. It could be done with ECMSpy using the raw EEPROM hex data fetch and burn. That, along with a spreadsheet, info on ECMSpy.com and some decent computer skills. |

Thanks XB9 but way over my head, who would be able to do something like this? I live in Massachusetts if that helps. Mike |

Mapping, if done properly will transform this bike to perfection in the lower RPM range. Of course, not for public highway use - race only. It is the cure for the following issues below 4K: Surging. Bucking. Stumbling. Once corrected - WOW, not the same bike.. If you take a look at the fuel and timing maps, for a tuner it's plain as day. Confirmed with a wide band 02 controller. That's all I'll say here, PM me with your return email if you want more information. At least we can put that issue to rest! |

Hi XB9, Dave, I'd like to get more info. from you when you have time. My low-end surging problem is driving me nuts! Thanx, Tracy jotrevza@aol.com |
