Afternoon all, Spirited riding on the freeway had me shifting down from 6th to 5th at about 75 on I25 south and getting back onto the gas. I got revs, ZERO power. I look down, after letting off the throttle, and see no warning lights, no neutral light, nothing. Get back on the gas and more revs. No power, just revs. I'm slowing down at this point, click back up into 6th, and she's got power. Back down into 5th and she's got power. What gives?? I've gotten three false neutrals between 5th and 6th but only when up shifting. I have never had a false neutral any where else. I just figured I was too lazy in my shifting. | ||

Same here on the false upshift but at the 2 to 3. Every ride, now at 5k miles. Feels like either not enough tension on the drum centering spring or fork pins locking... Plan on a reverse shift drum install soon so whatever the problem is should be found then. | ||

I too have hit it...several times but always on the way up to 6th from 5th, I blame lazy shifting. But why is it not engaging a gear? I haven't noticed it in any other gears. | ||

Hit it once, Lazy shifting. Pulled the clutch and didnt really pull up @ all reved up a little. All my dirt bikes have done the same thing so wasnt that strange feeling. | ||

Ive hit it quite a few times between 5 and 6, but I know for a fact its just lazy shifting. The gears on my Ninja were a lot shorter so sometimes I dont click up far enough and I catch a neutral...never have had a problem getting it to click right back into gear tho. | ||

I've found it between 2-3 a couple times. Was kinda soft shifting, so probably my fault. | ||

i find the 5-6 every once in a while; certainly due to lazy shifting. im not complaining though, this bike shifts wayyy cleaner than my tuber buell!! | ||

I've found it a few times. It's always when I don't let the shifter go down fully. Need to adjust it slightly for my stiff racing boots. | ||

happends to me. its just me being lazy and not kicking it into gear hard enough between 2-3 and 5-6 | ||

My bike shifts smoother than my VFR, smoother than my 12Ss, and much smoother than my Aprilia did. There is nothing wrong with the tranny on my bike. That said, I have hit false neutrals a couple of times. I don't remember which gear, but each time I knew the cause - a tentative shift. It happens sometimes... Not to say that trannys don't sometimes need adjusting. If it keeps happening to you and - be honest with yourself - it is not rider induced, take it in. Ride safe, Jack | ||

+1 Jack I have no reason to think anything's wrong with mine either, just the first time it ever happened. What alarmed me wasn't the false neutral as much as the clunk when I found 5th... Z | ||

Maybe its elf magic keeping you out of 5th until your recall is performed? | ||

Maybe there is just not enough lubrication between 5th & 6th....  Is it possible that there is a correlation between the 5th gear galling and possible lock-up and the apparent false neutral between 5th and 6th? (Message edited by kttemplar on June 28, 2008) | ||

Its possible... I have had just 2 "false neutrals" and both times I am pretty sure I didn't perform the upshift with enough "authority". I am not too worried about it. | ||

I've never had a shifting problem with my 1125. In fact, it's the smoothest shifting bike that I've ever owned. | ||

Hit it a couple times between 5 and 6, always going up. Lazy shifting, possibly something with the whole "recall" thing... who knows. I just thougt it was the Harley lineage lol! | ||

Bike runs and shifts awesome and never hit a false neutral, I have not brought my bike in yet for the two upgrades either. | ||

The recall will not cure the false neutrals due to the rider. The 1125r (at least mine) is so light and smooth shifting that you really just need to shift it and ride. If you are shifting lazy, you may still run into that twilight zone of neutral. |
