Anyone know what happened to Baggermike? He could tell you all about HID lights.

He got pissed about everyone coming down on him about his charging problems and said he will no longer post. Had not been back since, at least posting wise. He might still be lurking though who knows?

www.starrotors.com have the cheapest digital hid lights,

also maybe www.hidny.com but not sure,

if you are going to do all four get the digital ones they have the small ballest.

I have been here watching and waiting for my bike to be done and then will post the pictures of the bike.

H8 capsules are the base type the 25r uses, IIRC. I'll post some picts tomorrow. With the smaller ballast I could fit them both in the nose of the fairing. Actually this kit installed REAL nice, IMHO.

I would not go HID because of a couple of reasons. I can't speak for the 1125 yet, but using the XB as an example, there are two big problems you will encounter.

One, you have to make sure that once the light is on, it stays on. If the light is shut off before it warms up completely, the bulb won't last very long. So, if you turn on your ignition and the light fires, then the starter relay drops power to it when you start the engine, you're cutting the life of the bulb significantly. That's also why you don't want to do the high beams HID - they are commonly used for short periods of time.

Second, you are going to want to take the power source for the light off the ignition relay. Again, I can't say if the 1125 is wired this way, but the XBs are. As it is, the relay life suffers because when you turn the ignition to run the relay has the inrush current of the fuel pump and the headlight at the same time - about 6 amps inrush, from what I remember. When the HID ballast fires you're going to be dealing with about 20 amps inrush, and that's going to cut the life of the relay significantly.

If you are going to anyway, do the low beams only, and give the headlights a separate power switch so you can turn them on yourself once your bike is up and running. One of the more elegant ways I've seen to do it is using this:

What can be done on the 1125r, is to use the accy plug to power a relay for the HID power. Since one of our 25r riders determined that the accy power does not come on until after the motor is running (great find!).

So.... you can turn on the key, wait for the CEL light to go out and start the engine. Through the magic of computers, power now goes to the accy plug and you HID's.

Only prob with that would be if your battery ever drained, you'd lose lights when the accy plug turned off. Could be a bad situation if riding at night.

You'd still have your high beams. Besides if it's low enough to cut off the accy plug, you have MUCH worse problem that will happen REAL soon, like the engine stopping!

some have problems... I have nothing but joy...
I purchased an H11 kit from xenondepot.com standard car kit nothing motorcycle specific. I have over 11k miles right now. No special timers, relays, or switches. Every-time I fire up the bike they blink as they loose power. The biggest issue with surges is damage to the ballast. Maybe if you get high quality ballasts they are more durable... maybe I'm just lucky....

I'm running 4500K and if you look through the pictures you can see the difference in color and intensity compared to the high beams.

wow looks like the stock reflector works very well with HID as well! why did you go with the H11? thought the factory lights were H8? looks good, nice pix!

I've got an XB with an HID high beam. If I flick the high bean too quickly the speedo goes to zero, and starts working again when the bike has been switched off for 5 or minutes. I thought it may have been a voltage spike, but someone suggested that it may be EMF causing a software crash in the speedo.

EMF shielding may be something to watch out for it you are fitting the ballast under the fairing.

The HID's I've used have all come with a wiring harness and a relay that is energized off the existing headlamp connector.

There are many different offerings as to how the lights are powered and when/ how they are turned on.

Hey guy's what I did is use toggle switches for both lights for a number of reasons,

this gives me total control over my lights like warming up the bike I can have them off,

or if the bike was low on power I can have them off and that would free up a little bit of power needed to start the bike incase of low voltage,

also the low beams put out to much light and hurt my long distance vision so I have to have the low beams off when using the high beams also saving power.

the difference in digital over non digital is quicker warm up, 15% brighter, and a more even color temp so if you did have all four on they would look the same, plus the boxes are very small compared to non digital,

this is what I read,

also the bulbs if they do burn out are not that expensive to replace at 30 to 60 depending were you buy them and shipping charges.

I have a friend who's an electronic systems designer that has a circuit which delays the headlights turning on on his bike for a timeout period or until the bike is running. Save his battery as well as his lights.

Anyway ReepiCheep if you can give me a link to your schematic I'd appreciate it. I still want to do mine. I've only put the HID in the high beam because of the issue of needing the lights warm before ...
