I have a trackday coming up and my lights need to be taped up. Is it OK to tape over the lights while they're on? I don't want the adhesive to get cooked on the lamps. I've tried pulling the 15A fuse for the lights, but the bike doesn't start without the fuse in place. Any suggestions/advice? (Message edited by pariah on June 08, 2008) | ||

Just disconnect the ground wire. its the one thats vertical, running and brake are horizontal. (all on the back of the tail light housing) and should work if you have stock light or LED. Have fun at the track!! -Robert www.xblights.com | ||

Mine were taped up yesterday at Code's school. Left on for 9 hours. They used the blue, painter's masking tape. Came right off. No residue. Have fun! | ||

OK, thanks for the input... the rear brake light is fairly easy to disconnect as Robert suggested. But what a pain in the a$$ to remove/disconnect the low beams. My hands just don't fit back there... Glad to hear from Alan that I don't actually need to disconnect the headlamps... back into the garage I go to fix my mess! | ||

i pull the bulbs from the running lights and disconnect the plug for the low beams, and remove the taillight, mirrors and rear turn signal bracket. have fun. tim | ||

Pariah, Like Alans said, use Painters tape. no need to remove any fuses/bulbs. If you use electrical or Duct tape and leave the lights on you'll have a mess on your hands. The Buell demo fleet uses painters tape and it even works on a 75K ducati | ||

Tim: wow, how do you access the lowbeam plug? I can only squeeze a couple of fingers there... is there a trick you have for that? Matt: thanks for the tip... When they are referring to painters tape - they're talking the "3M Safe Release" stuff. You will easily spot it in the aisle of Lowes - look for the blue. Regular masking tape will bake onto the surface in the sun - whether or not your lights are left on. Duct tape and electrical tape are equally bad. | ||

takis, i pull the mirrors off and 2 screws on the fairing to access the harness for the led's and the light plug. i reinstall the 2 screws and install 2 tywraps through the mirror/signal holes to hold the top of the fairing. it takes about 10 minutes and you don't have to buy mirrors if you tip. the rear bracket takes a little longer as the plugs are hard to get to. 3 screws hold it in place, but i have to remove the tailpiece in order to unplug the harness. i also remove the passenger peg mounts. all told it takes about an hour to prep and another hour to reinstall after the track day. have fun. tim |
