I noticed that my belt is fraying and I know someone had posted that the belt guard was most likely causing this. So my first question is which guard is it I see one on the top of the swing arm, one on the bottom and the one on the engine? My second question is how have dealers been handling this, and does BMC have any thing out on this? Also as the originator of this post I am asking that replies be kept to a constructive and civil nature. In other words I don't want this to become another rant thread. I mean yes this is a new bike has issues, they're good and bad dealers, etc. My intent is to figure what my options would be with my belt issue nothing more nothing less. Thanks for any advice. | ||

If it's one of the guards, you have 2 basic choices: 1) Take it to the dealer and have them fix it. 2) Shim the offending guard(s) with a washer to give you just a little more clearance from the belt. Either option should work to fix the problem. As for the amount of time, etc., that is dependent upon you & your dealer(s) & YMMV | ||

I had to shim my bottom guard at 7 miles. Also on the inside of the bottom guard is another guard so you have to shim it in also. You will see what I mean once its off the bike. I also notified the dealer so they had record of the belt fraying in case it gets worse but i did not replace it yet. | ||

I shimmed mine right away based on input here. never had it rub or fray, but went from 2mm to 7mm clearance with a single washer. | ||

I also need to shim my bottom guard but have been too busy with other stuff. | ||

Just as Haus has said I also shimmed both guards for a "little" extra clearance. I was careful not to go to much and allow even small rocks to get to the belt. I did mine before riding much with advice from here (BadWeb) and my belt tracks perfect and no fraying at all. Gotta love this site and the people here. Bob |
