There isn`t much involved at all. You should just do it your self. |

If you take it to the dealer, it will be the most expensive oil change ever! |

I just dropped my bike off a few weeks ago and picked up my loaner bike while mine was being serviced. But, I have a dealer extended warranty that I only have to pay for tires and brake pads for the next 4 years. But, if I didn't have this warranty I would've just been changing the oil myself, as it would be cheaper that way. |

Oil change, tire pressure, reset the service meter, and general inspection is what I remember. There could have been something else but I don`t remember. |

Not much to do. The Owners Manual is always a good source for answers |

First service is pretty easy. Hard part is "critical fastener" list. Check anything that will kill you if it falls off. Z |

what about warranty issues? if something would come up mechanically, and it was never in to a dealer, isn't it possible they will deny it?? |

Keep your receipts for all the service items (oil, filters, etc.) and it doesn't hurt to keep/make a log of EXACTLY what was done by mileage & date. They may not "like it", but they can't deny warranty work provided you can prove it was serviced correctly. |

Also keep in mind that if you have "modified" anything effecting the handling/performance of the bike, they can also tell you that all bets are off when it comes to warranty work. True story - Had the shop I bought my 2nd M2 from install the race kit before I took delivery. I was denied warranty work for leaking rear rocker box and cracked header since the bike had been modified. $75 later for having them TIG the header, ~$15 box for gaskest, couple of hours and busted knuckles, I was back on the road. Lesson learned = If you need to have warranty work done, make sure you have followed the Manufacturer's reccomendations to the letter. |

Ok - so at the risk of being flamed.... At the end of the day - it depends on the relationship you have with your dealer. In my case, I was a multi-bike Harley/Buell product owner that relied on them to do everything. Finally - I went to the service manager and told him that I simply could no longer afford to maintain the bikes with them. He sent me off to the local Tech School (there is one a few miles from where my office is) that offered a "basic motorcycle maintenance class". It doesn't hurt that the same staff also teaches Harley/Buell techs in the PNW. That was a couple of years ago. Now - some stuff they do (as long as I am not paying) and other stuff I do. None of my "warranty" items are even questioned. Great example - the aluminum piece that holds the clutch spring mechanism sheared off on my 1125R. I had been maintaining her myself for over 3 years - and was out of warranty. My dealer went to bat for me and I got a new primary cover + gaskets + fluid - all covered as a defect. Now they COULD have said - no way - you adjusted your clutch too tight (I didn't) - or any number of "it is your fault". My guys - they argued my case with BMC. IMHO - the best line of defense is to establish a STRONG relationship with a dealer. I know - a lot of them suck. Anyway - now, maintenance on my "fleet" is really a partnership. And it works for both my dealer and me. Of course, YMMV |

Well... so far haven't touched my 1125R. But the Ultra, M2, Firebolt and blast have all taken their share of knuckle skin off both hands. |
