These are a great addition to the bike. MUCH easier to control weight shift compared to gripping a slippery aluminum frame. The tank protector is brand new from these guys and custom for the XB/1125r. Does the grip skin on the frame help keep the inside of your legs cooler? Also, are they able to be removed easily and put back on? Just like the XB, the 1125R can start to cook the inside of my legs on a warm day. | ||

Is that a logo, or a snap on the top rear corner of the frame cover? Nice looking. Can they do custom colors (like diamond blue)? | ||

Let's see: Yes, dense rubber with a diamond like pattern. they also have a type that is more like rubber grip tape (think back to your skater days.) Legs cooler? I personally haven't had heat problems from the frame, but some heat comes from the headers. Maybe that's because the gripskins are somewhat of a barrier. Figure a 1/4 inch<---wrong 1/8 inch<----correct of dense rubber as a barrier and I wouldn't think it would get as hot or cold as the aluminum frame. That is a small logo. To save your nuts. To keep your weight off your wrists and bars under heavy braking. Easier to grip the bike under all circumstances, which will aid your riding comfort. Looks to me like the tank pads are NOT made for an 1125R, but probably fit nicely on an XB frame. Cut to fit the 1125R and I might be interested. In your pix the lines don't match at all. Good idea. Z | ||

Guys, the pads are 1/8 inch thick, not 1/4 as I reported earlier. Also, the adhesive is releasable/reusable as well. Zac--YOu are correct, those were made for the XB. I am going to contact to see if something can be custom fit the 1125r. I'll keep you posted. Honestly, much like the pods, when you view the pads from a standing position, if is much less noticeable than the bike level pics. Bearly--Contact the company directly via email or phone. I sent some shots of my 1125r to the company. Obviously, they have not had time to publish them. | ||

Why don't you want it slippery? Don, I believe it is so your outside leg doesn't slide around when hanging off in corners. I've seen many track day bikes with grip material on the sides of the tank. | ||

I got these on my Firebolt and once you ride a bike with some sort of grip skins you won't want to ride with out them. I feel much more connected to the bike and can brake a lot harder keeping my weight off the bars. Should be the first mod you should do when you get a new bike. | ||

The lines look a lot better in the last one Fres. I like the snake skin or the high fusion for the frame and the Ice grip for the swingarm where my boot heels always wear out the paint. Got 'em bookmarked. Thanks, Fresno. Z | ||

Yep, I know that Tech-Specs main machine went south, so they are trying to get that issue resolved. I am confident that they will take care of our 1125r needs. I'll keep y'all posted. | ||

Harlan - For the frame/tank - At the back/bottom, cut it so it's ground-parallel. At the top/front, fit in with ~ 1/2" from the edges. You're on the right track with your "altered sample" in the last pic, just "grow" it a bit.. That will work for the 2 types of black pads. The clear stuff has no border? If so, I can get a piece and add that to my swingarm for my bootheels. As far as airbox appliques, I have a tank bra. Just a nice, full fit that looks like it's an OEM thing. Very cool, thanks. I to like the tank bra but will do the frame and when they get the machine running I have a pattern I would like or maybe the kit that they will make will be good. if I paint the bike I think I am having the frame and swing arm done with Rino liner, but also like the tech grips to. I do not like the blue frame and the wheels are even worse, but did not buy the bike for its color, I bought it because of the performance and thought it was built from the rider down for the street rider, and now they tell me it is a race bike? Hello. The max width of the pad is 7", so that might complicate covering the whole front part of the frame. Also, unless you are Kareem, your knees will never go there. What do you think about this mock up. I cut the rear of the pad to run with the seat. The margin around the rest of the pad is consistent in width and runs with the frame. Input please.  | ||

Wondering how they will hold up in sunlight? Meanwhile, I can't recommend strongly enough having a tank/frame that has some sort of grip material stuck to it. I used skateboard grip tape on my SV and Stomp Pads on the XB. You don't want to be using the handlebars for anything other than steering inputs. If you HAVE to "hang onto" the bars to steady yourself, you're fighting too much. If you have to use your leg and lower back to hold your position, it just gets tiring. Amazing the difference in confidence and control it gives you when your butt is hanging off the seat because you DO NOT HAVE TO HOLD ONTO THE HANDLEBARS. This is really critical in hard turning so that your grip on the bars is relaxed. Can't relax if you're slip-sliding around on the bike. Besides - those pads look nice - thanks for posting. The Stomp and Grip Tape always seemed to peel loose after a month or two. Let's have a rider's report!!! (Message edited by slaughter on February 22, 2008) | ||

An alternative approach might be to have the tacky rubber material sewn into the groin and inseam areas of your cycling pants, or perhaps rubberized sleeves could be devised to cover the inside knee and lower leg areas. This would keep you from having to mod the bike. Anyone aware of such accessories? Maybe outfits like techspec-usa.com or aerostich.com might be interested in developing something like this. | ||

I'm really more interested in protecting the paint. My old Firebolt had a patch of bare aluminum from my boot heel. I'm seeing discoloration on my frame where I grip, leather holds well - no slip. Either my Akito Squid suit or my HD grade buttless chaps work just fine for hanging on. Z | ||

Hey Guys has anyone have had Rino liner and know what it feel like, I do not like the blue color and thinking of painting the bike and if I do I am thinking of having the frame painted with Rino liners and think it might be good for grip like the ones here, I guess that I might have to go to the shop and see a sample, I am thinking that I might get these skins to for now because a paint job would be next winter, and hope by then all the bugs would be worked out and a big bore kit will be available and then I can take the bike apart and see how good I did breaking in the motor. I have a couple patterns cut and will post them this afternoon to get some feedback. hopefully get them sent to Tech-spec on Monday...they are pretty efficient, so maybe a week or so to get the proper fitting frame skins... | ||

As promised...There are 2 patterns, one is about a centimeter wider from top to bottom. The top 2 pics are of the wider pattern and the bottom 2 pics are of the narrower pattern. Let me know what you think and which you prefer. Also I am still open to improvement ideas, please. Thanks.     | ||

I would like to see the tank one bigger and the whole side of the frame bigger to match the lines but I think some on said they only come so wide, I will have to go on the website and see about what they can do. Mike | ||

FYI in the wide version above is exactly at the max width of 7" at the widest point. I am partial to the narrower version. Not sure why, just looks better to me. Also, it is closer to the proportion of the tank skins above it. |
