Buell will have a three-man technical team in Pensacola tomorrow. I dropped my bike off this evening for them to use while they work on CaptNemo's. I will make a point of dropping by tomorrow to meet them, and to see how things are going. The only problem mine has had is that the battery drains down in about four days unless I run a tender. They will check that problem out also, but secondary to solving the running and charging problems on CN's bike. I think it's cool that they send a factory team down here. Hope they enjoy the weather - 70's and sunny through the weekend... (Message edited by jpfive on February 06, 2008) |

My tach needle vibrates between 3k and 4k, before 3k and after 4k its smooth as it should be. |

My tach needle also goes nuts... It used to bother me, but its not detrimental to anything as far as I know... |

I'm not having the tach problem, but I will mention it to the team when I meet them. Jack |

A HUGE THANK YOU to Jack for bringing his bike in to the dealer for them to have a standard to measure against. BZ Big Guy !!!!! I've been pretty quiet on here hoping that this issue will be resolved. The bike has been in the shop for a serious amount of time ( over 2/3rds of the time ) since I took delivery in December. I have been very patient, but it's starting to warm up and riding weather is getting closer. I spoke at length with the District Service Manager on the phone yesterday and he told me that Buell is committed to resolving this issue. This is a problem that they haven't seen before so they want to study it and learn from the problem to prevent it or have a solution the next time this occurs. I'm still optimistic that this will get resolved whether it's with VIN# 270 or with another bike. Again, Thanks Jack !! . |

Keep us posted. There are several folks that have an interest in battery/charging related problems. |

Scott, I dropped by today and talked to Cody Gray, who is one half of the team Buell sent down. The guy is sharp. I think that all of this stuff is going to come down to an electrical problem. My bike has an issue with charging that looks like it may be a prevalent issue. The fact that many of us are now using tenders has probably kept it from being more serious than it has been 'til now. He demonstrated the problem on my bike. The charging system works perfectly when the bike is cold - 14+ volts across the terminals at idle, and holding steady when the engine is revved. However, once the bike gets hot, voltage from the generator falls off to 12 volts at all rpm's - meaning the battery is running at least a slight deficit, rather than being topped off. You guys running around in sub-freezing temperatures may not be seeing this as much yet. At any rate, they seem committed to hang with it until they have diagnosed the problem - and the fix. I liked the look of your rear tire, BTW - can tell it had a track day... Jack |

BTW, the team is not aware of problems with vibrating tach needles, and our two bikes aren't having that problem. Jack |

Thanks for the update Jack. That may explain why I didn't have any battery problems till the this week as the weather has been much warmer of late |

Jack come to think about it Monday on the way home I got stuck in stop-n-go traffic. The coolant temperature got up to 198-200 degrees. It usually runs around 164-178, so that was the first time I'd seen it get that high. Tuesday morning was the first time I'd seen the low battery light. Tuesday evening again got stuck in stop-n-go traffic and again the coolant temperature hit 198-200 degrees. Next time I tried to start the bike the battery was dead. Both days were unseasonable warm in the 65-70 degree range. Anyway can you ask the techs if this sounds like the problem they have identified? Also see my thread on "Another dead Battery" for more information. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/335324.html?1202504306 |

This is a problem that they haven't seen before SSoooooo many times i've called the factory with computer(CNC) issues only to be told that exact line And when you call in the "Factory trained" technicians they laugh when they tell you....."Yeah...factory trained every time we come to your factory we get training". I'm very curious(not trolling misery) to learn the issue with 1125r dead batteries.Doesn't seem like an anomaly |

I'm assuming that with the bike off, the battery is at something slightly *higher* then 12V? Smells like a semi-conductor to me. Does the Uly still use a shunt regulator and generator? Or do you get brushes and an alternator now? |

The team is flying back to Troy for the weekend - no beach time. Bummer for them. They will return next week. I suspect they will be huddling with the engineers, and maybe collecting some gear for the trip back. I told the dealer to just keep my bike for the duration - just as soon have the charging problem sorted before they return it. Jack |

This thread and others on battery/charging problems has led me to ask "how many 1125's out there are NOT having any problems with this"? And with that how many are running in fairly warm weather? With what has recently been said I'm wondering if these electrical problems will increase with higher temperatures, both ambient and engine induced. Ohm's law is usually correct and temperature related. Lets hear your experience. Bob |

It has been cool in CA recently but it was warmer today. About 75. And I did have check engine light come on in stop and go traffic on the freeway (Coolant temp approaching 195). Once the traffic got going again the light went off. I don't know if it is related to the battery issue but on warmer days, the bike is harder to restart after a brief stop. But I have not seen a sign of a drained battery. It is all anecdotal an proves nothing. But perhaps the two Buell fellows could make something out of it. |

Rode a floor bike today in Maryland. Ambient below 40, no issues. Bike only has 65 miles on it now that I've ridden it, but we've actually had it here for about three weeks and it fired right up, took a short run (about 20 minutes) to the local motor vehicle authority, sat in the lot for about 40 minutes, fired up for the same trip home (maybe a little longer, I was having fun, lol). That was around lunch. Now, at 8pm, key-on (with headlights) shows 11.7 on the ODIS. If I get a chance to escape tomorrow I'll take it for a spin with the ODIS on battery V mode and see what she does. |

To add to the list of people that are not having problems, please list me... knock on wood. Today I started my bike (serial 142) after sitting for Five days without a tender. As with the last few rides here in N. VA. I road with my heated grips on along with heated gloves, vest. Today it was so warm I went without my heated leg chaps. (should have crossed the river Rat, it was 48 down here). All though I have seen the low system voltage message before, today sitting at many traffic lights I never saw a problem. Although I've been getting this vision problem while riding (things get blurry when I rotate my right wrist back) the only real problem is a slight jerky fueling condition at lower rpm's that I might operate in (like 3000 to 3500 rpm). I've had one hard start with a cold restart at a CT of around 120°. I had bleeped the throttle a couple of times while starting in 1st. And of course the mirrors suck. I dig dis ting maun. I have driven the hyway for almost two hours and my battery will get run down while only using 120 watts of extra juice and a big difference between my sons ulysses and blast, both of those bikes I have to turn the heat off, on the 1125R they hardly gets warm? I will be watching here to see what the pro's say. Mike |

Bearly - management wanted me to call them when I got to the MVA - they don't trust me on demos for very long. Maybe it's because they've seen me ride, LOL. And Friday is my "monday" - off every wed/thu, and work every weekend. Fridays are a nice, short 9-8 shift. Ugh. If I'd found good riding today, I may not have gone back The worst part was, my S2 was sitting at work waiting patiently for me...with my heated jacket and glove thermostat velcro'd securely to the dashboard. All I could do on the 1125 was tuck in, with the clothing plugs tucked in my pocket so they wouldn't scratch anything. <sigh> The sacrifices I make.... heheh. |

JP5, the Motor Company guys will be back next week for sure. From what I understand as far as the battery going dead if not on a tender is that every 60 seconds the computer on the bike performs a systems check. That's great other than it does while the bike is off also, draining the battery. So makes sense. At least they narrowed down the cause of the draw. We're making progress and thanks to you and of course captnemo for his patience and understanding. You guys have been great. |

Like Doerman I got the check engine light today. A little bit of slow speed riding after some twistys and in town stop and go. Coolant about 195. Wasn't on long at all but the light stays on a bit longer on start up now indicating a code is stored. No low voltage light, no hard starts hot or cold. Only about 350 miles on the bike as of yet. |

With all of the posts about discharged batteries, current drains when shut down, and lack of sufficient charge current, I'm wondering where are all the "anonymous"? Haven't heard a peep from them now when they're needed. |

Well Diablo1. I have my theory about that. On or about January 7th, there were a heckuva shouting match between annony and Rocketman. After that showdown, annony has been quiet. Coincidence? I think not. And it is understandable. I'd stay away too if I were socked in the face. Disclaimer: This is pure conjecture on my part without any basis in facts Speaks for good manners, does it not? |

Why would one "Rocketman" scare away many anonymous? If the point is to provide help, information, and PR to the customers and potential customers, anonymous better have a thicker skin. I know I do when dealing with customers who are troublesome (rightly and wrongly). I would think that anonymous would post a simple answer with either: "We're working to resolve the problem". "There is no problem". "We've found this is the problem". "New better parts are on the way". No response can be interpreted as: "You bought the bike, now we don't care, figure it out yourself." |

Diablo if that is true than it going to come back and bite them in the ass down the road, words spread like a disease and the word will get around that they do not have good customer service and do not care after the sale and people will buy els were. Mike |

The good news here is that we know Buell is on top of the problem. They know about it and are sending folks to the field to diagnose and identify the cause. I'm sure we will see a fix in short order. |
