Thanks, Blake.
This is a great place.
I've been playing on the web for over 15 years and never been this active on any board.
There is more passion here than 5 Mac fansites and that's what caught me, right off the bat.
In the short time I've been here, I've met some really good people - in person and rode with them.

Metalstorm said it - "Jealousy is a hard thing to live with"

Well, haters, I've got mine and you don't, Neener neener.

I've seen it and ridden it at Mid-Ohio, and again last weekend at the IMS stop in Novi, Michigan. The Buell display included the cut-away model of the 1125R, which is beautiful in another way. I was at the display for about fifteen minutes, and noticed that the bikes which seemed always to have someone sitting on them were the 1125R and a blue Uly with full luggage.

My initial reaction to the 1125R was not like the first time I saw an XB9R with white bodywork, nor like the first time I saw a black XB12R. (I still own the latter bike.) The color scheme is one of my least favorite all time in a Buell. The wheel color in particular needs careful lighting to photograph well.

But the 1125R is very attractive in three dimensions. Moreso when ridden: I left Mid-Ohio wondering how I might add material to my Firebolt's fairing so that air flowed around the bars/hands as on the 1125R.

I agree that the 1125R's muffler is a most unattractive feature. On the other hand, the only thing I'd pay to change is the material - in favor of stainless. Painting my XB12R's muffler is a chore with no redeeming qualities, and replacing the torque-once clamps totals, what, $85 in parts?

I can understand even a visceral reaction to some of the features. But why dwell on them? The only completely beautiful bike I saw at the IMS was the MV Augusta F4CC edition, and the MSRP was $100k, for the record.

I may make a special trip over to Tyler, TX in order to see one of these beasts in person. Then I can actually contribute some real world perspective to this thread. I'll be 100% honest in my own personal opinion. Right now, I'm much more inclined towards a new Buell XB12R Firebolt(re-appointed in Black and Gold) or a new Buell XB12X Ulysses, color not yet decided, but I really like the black and gold of the older XB12's.

I think it's unfair that I'm being categorized a Buell Basher, look at my post here over the years. I remember posting on this site that I thought there was too many negative picky threads going on.

I have voted more for Buell than most with huge amounts of $$$$ enthusiasm an participation in local activities.

If you are surprised my the strong reaction to the love it or hate it styling (not the bike) 1125 then take a look around the web and see what people are saying. It's brutal. I think one possible reason for the strong emotions some perceived as offensive is that so many who truly study and work in areas of design are offended as if we were trying to be fooled by silly marketing point vs a serious best in class design.

"The bike has a great wind protection" Of course it does, it as a 1988 Buick strapped to the front, a whole family could tuck in.

"The pods will save you money whn you crash" well yeah so would anything else you strap to the side, pillows, kids, animals, roombas, Frisbees etc.

I have no joy in writing negative things about my Favorite Bike Manufacture. I think its the absolute arrogance and the your with us or against us crowd mentality that is disappointing. I have no problem being told I have a bike that is ugly or slow or whatever if it is in fact true, it is what it is. If I enjoy the bike that is what counts. It hard to tell some one they have a burger hanging on their nose, but thats a true friend.

I'm glad their are so many happy customers of the 1125R, Buell needs this. I want them to succeed. If they react to market desires and make a model that is a little more cohesive in design they will have a runaway success.

I'm going to put my .02 in here. I made this thread to talk about what I got a chance to see. I do not appreciate my own thread about a bike that I LIKE having those who have been posting negative comments in other threads being used for those same comments. This crap that has been going on since this bike was released has gotten very old. This is the reason I don't post very often any more. I choose to post in other Buell forums where this crap is less or non existent. Every thread in the 1125R forum is filled with hate posts from the same people over this bike. For God sake. Get a life people.

Zack, I was implying that I'm the one who is jealous.
When I look at that bike I see past the sum of its parts.

When I look at it I don't see a bunch of pieces put together to form a motorcycle.

I see a shape. A form.
I see an idea, an ideal and a desire.
I see motivation and determination.
I see the urge to breathe hard and run fast.

I see the bike I want but can not have for a few more years.
It makes me a little green but in a good way: )

Send Buell a letter.
Think anybody from the factory still reads these threads? (which could be the motivation of the Buell Haters)

Brad,

"I think it's unfair that I'm being categorized a Buell Basher."

Who did that to you? If you're thinking I did, that was not my intent. I was trying to categorize you as a whiner, not a Buell basher. Come on amigo, htfu? Or at least let's be able to laugh at ourselves from time to time, yes? : )

Where's Dr. Phil and what kind of motorcycle does he ride?

I have a challenge seeking to elevate the seeing it in person scenario. An extremely rare official BadWeB decal (6" x 2.5") goes to the first person who can get a photo of Dolly Parton at the controls of a Buell 1125R. Okay, to stay on theme, two decals!

Do you get extra points if the shot is angled in a way that the 1125's scoops are still visible behind Dolly's scoops?

On edit: Now that I think about it, I'm not sure such a shot is possible. The 1125's scoops are big but not that big : D

Second edit: No disrespect to Ms Parton. She seems to be a good natured down to earth gal who would get a chuckle out of that.

Blake:

I was thinking that if she was in the riding position, we may not be able to post that picture (at least "R" rated in our minds). What was I thinking???? She won't be able to reach the bars (but it sure would be fun watching her try!).

I actually have a friend whose handyman is also the handyman for Dolly and her house here in BNA. Would that be an unfair advantage? Now all I need is an 1125r!

Time2GO B4 I get in more trouble!!!!

Duxcl, the name is 1125R. The XB part was very deliberately not included because it is not an X type frame.

BadWeB is not any kind of representative for Buell Motorcycle Company. If ANYONE wants to express displeasure or criticism directly to the folks at Buell, they really ought to take pen and paper, put their thoughts in a letter, and send it to the folks in East Troy. My interest here is to have a nice place for Buell enthusiasts to convene online. If by chance some Buell professional folks stop by to read once in a while, that's a bonus. But it's not why we are here.

Having a little inside knowledge relating to these concerns causes a problem for me.

You say it's the integrity of BadWeB you're preserving, yet I know for a fact Buell personnel including the one I shall not name, post here regularly. Seldom do they offer or even answer any of the more interesting and in depth issues that some, like me, might raise. What they do instead is use the BadWeB for their own ends. Promoting their product, then ridiculing me when I ask that proof be available when for example these same Buell representatives make claims about their products being superior to other manufacturers.

The way I see it is you want them here. That they get a tough time from questions I raise has them pissing and moaning at you to shut me down. That has little to do with the integrity of BadWeB. There are many here, as witnessed these past few days, that are in full support of my contributions on the BadWeB. That you and some \ all of your custodians take sides is has f u c k all to do with freedom of speech. F u c k all to do with the BadWeBs integrity. It is all about you wanting to appease those in Wisconsin who seem unwilling to share the inner depths of Buell enthusiasm amongst their fans, except on their terms. Funny how they're happy to be on the BadWeB praising their motorcycles, but the slightest pimple arises and they're cowering behind you and your one sided BadWeB policy.

Sorry Blake but I really don't see it the way you do, and I see you as confronting me in an effort to appease them, not the Buell product. That's the problem. If you need any proof of my argument, read again Grumpy's Land Rover post. I can tell you on my Mothers life, he plain nailed my point exactly. You have no legs to stand on in this argument other than you're in it for Buell and not the bikes.

Anyone else seen a production Buell 1125R in person?

Yep. Unfortunately I thought it was uglier in real life than in the photos.
To me (simply my opinion and taste) the fairing is much too large for the bike and appears out of place from any angle I veiwed it from. It overpowers the compact stature of the machine and gives me the impression of being a hasty combination of available parts (Firebolt platform)and new parts being thrown together to bring a new model to market.
The muffler really turned me off as well. I just can't believe that with Mr. Buells' innovative thinking that the cumbersome hunk of metal hanging underneath the powerplant is the best idea he could come up with. The example I saw had poor welds and poor finish which, considering how visible it is, was in my mind unacceptable.
I have no doubts that the new power plant gives a level of performance that is quite impressive however I feel the styling will do little to win over a signifigant number of converts or draw virgin buyers.

That's a patently inaccurate statement. I still laugh about the time I dropped one of the Buell folks off at JFK International Airport for a late night flight to Italy.

About 2 hours after the flight was in the air a barrage of posts appeared from one of the familiar posters . . . .

Tain't necessarily so . . .

If you have a REAL Buell problem there is a number to call posted prominently at the top of the customer service page and there is a staff of folks waiting for your call.

The rest is the cyber equivalent of a barroom argument.

Here's a Court quote from waaaaay back.

I CAN FLY!

The reason I post this is it seems that these "debates" never end and both sides believe they are ALWAYS right. Somewhere the truth lies in the middle and it's up to the average Joe to figure it out. Personally, I haven't seen the 1125R in person, so I'll reserve any comments until I do.
