Had some free time today (snow on the ground, could't ride), so spent some time in the garage. Before trading in the XB, I pulled off the Dark Horse axle sliders, so figured if I can't ride the 1125r, might as well do a little work on it Took a little work, but I think they turned out pretty good. Front went on without a hitch.
Rears where slightly too large.
So had to do a little modifying. Screwed a bolt in to the slider, chucked it up to the drill press and ran and old file on it to shave it down.
Took about an hour to shave them down and run some sand paper on to get the brushed look back. Turned out pretty good (although not nearly as much protections as on the XB)
As an FYI for everyone, the axles don't appear to be any wider than the XB, used the all thread that they came with, tightened up just great! |

Maybe Dark Horse Moto can make those black powdercoated sliders to fit the 1125r? Looks like I will definitely go for the spools this time.... |

Thanks Nate! Not having direct access to an 1125R makes it a bit more difficult to determine what we need to do for our sliders. Al at American Sport Bike, Paul at Gainesville Harley-Davidson and Buell, and Bearly have all been very helpful. Harlan - we will have our spool line of sliders updated shortly to fit the 1125R. As Nate pointed out above, the XB fork sliders fit the 1125R perfectly. Keith DarkHorseMoto |

Any time Keith If you are looking for a number for the rear, I shaved the outside down on mine to 1.430 inches (36.33mm) so they would clear nicely. The belt side (opposite of what the XB normal has) slider now looks a bit small, could probably run the outside of it at 1.450 (36.83mm) with the back edges rounded (the opening in the rear axle doesn't appear machined, so there is a curve to the corner of the opening). The collar on both the front and rear fit without issue. Haven't seen the spool sliders up close, but if they are smaller, would probably work without any issues. Hope everything helps! -Nate |

Cool, thanks Keith. Looks like the mod should be a piece of cake for you..if you can get an 1125r to work with. Good luck and look forward to the product. |

Guys, I appreciate your patience. I just sent four new drawings to our machinist. Depending on his current backlog, we will have two versions of 1125R spool sliders ready shortly. Thanks, Keith |

Someone should find the color code for Diamond Blue. |

If someone can find the code for Diamond Blue, my powder coater can match it. Keith |

That would be cool if you could get them matched, would probably look pretty good. |

I just finished mine up...
Thanks to Diablobrian I threaded the delrin as opposed to just using a nut. Sadly I cannot make a larger one (especially for the rear left) because the stock that I used this time was the maximum capacity of my lathe. P.S. If anyone is interested, I can post the CAD drawings in PDF. (Message edited by interex2050 on January 01, 2008) |

I think that sliders matched to the Diamond Blue would not look near as good as brushed aluminum or delrin black and aluminum. Contrast is good. |

Interex - that would be way cool. I have to go back to work tomorrow, but we're slow now. Great time for "government jobs" and I've got lots of Delrin and Aluminum. While I'm making sliders, maybe I'll make some bar-ends. On bar-ends, the heavier they are, the more they kill vibes? Yes? If so, brass would be better than aluminum. Also, I can't get my mirrors to stay put. What about drilling out the spring tensioner rivet and bolt it solid? Z |

What exactly do axle sliders do? |

If you crash and the bike slides, they keep the forks from grinding into the pavement. |

What exactly do axle sliders do? The intention is that they are sacrificial as they protect more expensive and/or more difficult to replace parts. The first photo comes from a CCS racer who low sided at 80 mph: "I just wanted to drop an e-mail to say thank you for such a quality product!! I recently crashed my race bike in turn 1 at Blackhawk Farms at about 80mph. The bike landed on it's side and slid about 30 feet down the track. After picking myself and the bike up and dusting off there wasn't a single scratch on the swingarm!! As you can see in the attached photos your sliders did exactly what they were supposed to. Thanks again!! Ben CCS MW Amatuer #133"
The second and third are from a rider on the street who low sided in wet conditions. Note that the fork and swing arm are undamaged:
We will have 1125R specific sliders ready shortly in both Delrin and aluminum. Keith |

How do the stock bar-ends come out? Is it just a barbed end hammered in or is there a fastener? Dopey me didn't look closely when I did the heated grip kit and had it all apart.. I think I'll machine a HEAVY set of brass or bronze bar-ends, black Delrin swingarm sliders and Aluminum or Stainless fork sliders. I want to be able to find mine in a parking lot FULL of 1125Rs at Homecoming without sticking my key in 27 different bikes. Z |

Zac4mac, They are just pressed in... I have always just pried them out with some pliers. Stay tuned for the slider drawings, I have made a few changes and need to make sure they make sense... |

Yeah it is, but it works and that's what counts. Thanks Peter, I like to build, not design. I usually just "build to fit" but I don't think they'll let me take my bike upstairs to the shop. Now I'm not so grumpy about going to work tomorrow. It'll prolly be a week or two before I get anything built, I'll post pix tho. Zack |

Buellnick, I would recommend ebay for small amounts of Delrin stock. I bought a 1.5"x24" rod for something like $13. Best, Peter |
