Bill:

You've hit it on the nose . . . If anything . . . most the chatter about, not just Rocket, but the internet in general, is how gullible folks are to unsourced information.

Rocket reminds me of the old guy who used to tell me his Softail with the S&S Series G would do 160MPH. . . . he always had a story . . never a timing slip.

Entertainment.

You're a bit mixed up there Court. I'm always in the dog house around here for asking to see those 'Buell timing slips'.

And by the way, I've got my own timing slips, not least of all for draggin a Triumph chop that I built on the kitchen table. If anyone brags on the Internet, you need to take along hard look in the mirror. Such is a standing joke amongst many here.

timing slips

I have ALL my timing slips, where as your timing slipped.

The thread is regarding a customer who wants some advice on getting his bike running right. Therefore I see it as perfectly appropriate that when Rocketman, Brad1445, etc come on and start attacking the styling, the engineering, the heritage of all employees at Buell, such should be moved to poo. Post somewhere where this stuff belongs and quit flinging your sh** about to see on how many walls you can stick it.

I picked up on the problem of handing out a new model bike over a festive holiday, and if such new bike found trouble like this one did, how is that not topic related? The bull shit you mention, I don't take credit for. You polluted your own threads with your PC nonsense.

Stick with the facts please.

Anonymous,
You posted on a thread about "Anyone having trouble with their bikes". You talked about dealer training and new bike issues. I responded to that and you responded back. I thought we were talking about the same subject still. If so I still don't know why the posts were moved. I didn't attack the styling, the engineering or the heritage of any employees of Buell and I do appreciate you responding to my comments yesterday. I can understand this post not being there, but my post and your response in my opinion helped some people understand why the dealers may not have all the answers yet. That is directly related to the original thread titled "Anyone having trouble with their bikes?" Anybody got an answer? Do posts just get moved because someone didn't like it?

BWB could use a feature to Ignore posters whose constant berating and flaming about the boards do nothing but take up time deleting e-mails and clicking past. Maybe in the past they had a residual value but, like the air-cooled pushrod v-twin they also criticize, their time has past.

One other note: I don't know ANY other manufacturer, motorcycle or otherwise, that allows their CUSTOMERS this kind of access to trouble shooting and problem solving.

And people wonder why I love Buell?

I don't fully agree with that.
This forum is privately held and operated.
It is BMC that has access to all of the users of the forum and all of the information that the users post.
Think about it. The users post here more than BMC does each and every day.

I applaud you and BMC for your efforts with the launch of this new product. I am in customer support for a major aircraft manufacturer. I would love the opportunity to have a discussion thread with my customers and get real useful data. Again great job and hats off. (I just wish I could afford an 1125R)

I have not attacked the styling in this thread. The Buell Heritage in this thread , I did not attack the employees in this thread. That is incorrect information.

The only thing I have asked for here is open communications so things can always improve.

I believe there is a feedback to engineers & Erik on BWB. They do not have to participate there, or anywhere for that matter, and I am pretty sure it is in no one's job description to participate in said forums.

I also believe Erik and engineers and marketers attend many biking and track events.

I know that when I was leading a design team in the white goods industry (appliances) we had tested & tested simulating real world conditions then put some 300 units in homes of P&G and in that of our employees with strict documentation guidelines for recording impressions and only using our factory techs to trouble shoot plus visit weekly if need be. This went on for months and months with some units being returned and replaced as the design issues were resolved.

Still, initial production release a year later to consumers was wrought with issues as major or more than what I am so far seeing reported here on the 1125r. And our product did not go 150mph+ on open roads.

For those who believe the introduction could have been timed earlier or after the winter season - surely you do not work in a design or production capacity for an innovative & new consumer good. If life were only so simple.

Also, for some of the more outspoken critics who seem to sing only from one, off-key, song sheet without adding any real insight but loads of barbs and flames: it would be very interesting to see how you and/or your company would operate dealing with the public. Often in life, those who cry loudest are most guilty of that they are critical of.

Then there is that of corporate honesty. I like this one:

When a corporate executive begins to embrace the communication medium known as blogging, the world is generally a better place. In general, executives who blog are free from marketing censors and fluff that masks most corporate information -- from press releases to scripted quarterly results announcements.

Well, that is until one of them starts blogging anonymously in order to slam the competition and spread FUD all over the place. CEO Mr. Mackey was caught red-handed this past summer posting anonymously to Yahoo!'s finance message boards in relation to badmouthing natural food grocery competitor Wild Oats for a period of seven years. Mackey did not reveal that it was himself disparaging his competition at the same time Whole Foods Market, the company he founded in 1980, was considering a merger with its largest natural foods competitor.

Buell has done, and is doing something, never done before in terms of connecting the guy who designed the bike, the folks who build them and the folks who buy/ride them.

Try posting a question about your new (INSERT NAME OF MOTORCYCLE) and seeing if you get a call or e-mail from the design engineer on Christmas day clearing up the confusion.

The 1125R suffers a bit from it's own very innovation. The idea of getting the 100+ bikes out in the hands of journalists, racers, media and owners as the final bits and pieces were still in the works was without precedent.

Unfortunately it places the good folks in tech pubs (who typically take 6 months to do all those exploded views and procedures) in a tough spot.

Buell is doing an incredible job of monitoring each bike and caring for them.

So . . . that said . . ANYONE HERE HAVING ANY PROBLEM WITH YOUR NEW BUELL?

If so. . . remember. . .no substitute for details.

The 1125r is an EXCELLENT motorcycle.

Buell has done, and is doing something, never done before in terms of connecting the guy who designed the bike, the folks who build them and the folks who buy/ride them.

And how do you know this is unique to Buell? Just last month I was on the Ducati stand at the NEC, as was Ducati's MD. Guess what? He was talking to the punters. Then I walked over to KTM, where I spent quite a bit of time. KTM's MD was there too. Guess what. He was talking to the punters. Tell me Court, were you present when the designer of the Fireblade, and Hondas very top brass, and I mean top brass, hired Silverstone race circuit to celebrate the Fireblades 10th anniversary, with tens of hundreds of Fireblade and other Honda owners present? Several of Suzukis top brass did a similar thing only last year, where they intermingled amongst thousands of Suzuki owners who had turned out to celebrate 20 years of the GSXR. Suzuki even invited owners of every model GSXR to turn up in an effort to show a time line of every GSXR model ever built. That's Suzuki having fun with their fans and customers. Ever heard of World Ducati Weekend? Of course you have. You've been invited.

Try posting a question about your new (INSERT NAME OF MOTORCYCLE) and seeing if you get a call or e-mail from the design engineer on Christmas day clearing up the confusion.

This one's a little harder. You're saying the 1125 designer called and emailed an 1125 customer this Christmas day? I would really like for you to prove that. But of course you won't, as it's a little wide of the mark if you stick to absolute facts. We both know where you got this one from.

The 1125R suffers a bit from it's own very innovation. The idea of getting the 100+ bikes out in the hands of journalists, racers, media and owners as the final bits and pieces were still in the works was without precedent.

Really? Why? Could you go into a lot more detail please? It would help me understand that Buell might actually set some precedents, rather than you just telling us they do for the last ten years.

No arguing. I just get sick of hearing the stuff that never seems to actually have any substance to it. So, put it to the test and prove my suspicions are unwarranted.

He sometimes contributes some very interesting things.
If what he says gets to you, the best thing to do is to simply ignore him.

I come here for the info on the 1125, knowing that most of the people posting are here for the same reason. Also because I know a few of these people actually designed, assembled or tested my bike. That carries with it a certain amount of trust within this group. I can't help but feel crapped upon whenever someone like Rocket dribbles shit just for the sake of dribbling shit. I don't personally know any of you on this board but have come to trust the pleasant folks like Court, Blake, Zac4mac, Ratbuell and many, many others who actually have something constructive pertaining to our common new adventure, the 1125R. Sure some may not like it, some may love it, some just want to find out 'cause they're not sure yet and are looking here for a little help. Please, if you're looking to dribble some shit here, grab a roll of toilet paper and a water closet and have your fun, just be sure to flush and keep it off of this forum.

Don't know why I looked at this thread,,,

Rocket,

I have over 300,000 miles on BMWs. I've been riding for over 25 years and in total have well over a half a million miles under my arse.

I've owned Yamahas and Kawasakis in addition to BMWs and Buells. I can honestly say I have NEVER seen the level of customer engagement in ANY of those brands that I have seen with Buell.

I have never even MET the Presidents, CEOs, or founders of those companies, yet I've met and spoken to Erik Buell on two separate occasions (and even got him to sign my bike the last time).

The first time I met Erik was down in Daytona Beach. A friend was having "suspension issues" with her Thunderbolt. In no time flat, Erik was on the ground below her bike digging into the forks. He borrowed a helmet and took her bike for a spin before bringing it back and giving her his diagnosis.

Now... when you post that the FOUNDER of KTM, Honda, Suzuki or Ducati exhibited THAT kind of customer involvement to YOU personally, I'll believe that Buell is an "also ran."

Again, in my experience, I've only dealt with ONE other founder of a company that showed that level of customer involvement. And that man is Andy Goldfine.

I found myself listed in the a post from someone hiding behind an anonymous name. The person lied about my prior post. With power comes responsibility. Truth and accuracy is some of those.

I would love to know what percent of customers have spent as much supporting Buell as myself. My post asked for open communications to aid the people that have issues. Odd that a post asking for open communications is slandered than relocated.

If you hide behind a presumed veil of authority act accordingly and select you words in a measured manner. Direct your fire accurately.

The labeling of a serious attempt to get answers as 'poo' is just that.... poo.

Rocket, you make a good point. We do seem to hear a lot of cheer leading and few facts from those who would want us to believe they are in the know. When we ask in earnest it gets labeled as 'poo'.

On the other hand I do think the factory representation here is terrific and a valuable asset for us to tap. thanks you for that BMC!!

I've owned Yamahas and Kawasakis in addition to BMWs and Buells. I can honestly say I have NEVER seen the level of customer engagement in ANY of those brands that I have seen with Buell.

And you all reside on the same continent where your motorcycle of choice is also manufactured. That continent is several thousand miles either side of everywhere else.

For example, Tim Maccabee, Managing Director of Ducati UK was chatting with anyone and everyone at the NEC. I should know, I was stood next to him trying to blag a ride on the Desmosedici RR. Buell are not alone in such pursuits of their customers. Let's face it, Willie G has done it for years.
