Hey guys anyone know the best way to break in the motor in the cold, I have seen different break in procedures and am confused which is the right way? I live in Boston so it is cold, and want to do it right, I also found out the oil filters are expensive at 24 dollars, I orderd four for the break in. Mike | ||

and what kind of oil comes with the bike I heard it is bad to break a engine in with syn oil | ||

From online owners manual The First 600 Miles (1000 Kilometers) -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ The sound design, quality materials, and workmanship that are built into your new motorcycle will give you optimum performance right from the start. To allow your engine to wear in its critical parts, we recommend that you observe the riding rules provided below for the first 600 miles 1000 kilometers . Adhering to these suggestions will help to assure good future durability and performance. During the first 300 miles 500 kilometers of riding, keep the engine speed below 6000 RPM in any gear. Do not lug the engine by running or accelerating at very low RPM, or by running at high RPM longer than needed for shifting or passing. Up to 600 miles 1000 kilometers , vary the engine speed and avoid operating at any steady engine speed for long periods. Engine speed up to 7500 RPM in any gear is permissible. Drive slowly and avoid fast starts at wide open throttle until the engine has warmed up. Avoid lugging the engine by not running the engine at very low speeds in higher gears. New brakes need to be broken-in. Avoid stops from very high speeds for the first 200 miles 300 kilometers . Proper seating of the pads can be accomplished by using light brake pressure for the first few stops, letting the system cool, then doing several stops using moderate to firm brake pressure. As far as oil goes, I was told by my dealer that they came with regular ol' 20-50 dino oil in them. | ||

When you start the bike, the coolant temp flashes until it gets to 150˚F. Most of my 500 miles have been in 36-42˚F and I just wait until the display goes steady at 150˚ before I pull out. Then I take it easy until it maxxes out at around 167˚ before I start hitting the throttle any heavier. Basically the same as for warmer climes, but let it warm up completely. Don't forget to soften your suspension a little extra for the cold, beyond setting up for your weight. Z | ||

thanks guys got 150 on it and hope to get it insured and regesterd tomarow so I will go for a long ride with my heated gear to see how thing go and when I get home I doing my second oil change, did the first at fifty and tried to clean the filter the best I could, still cannot get any filters have four paid and waiting for them, hopefully soon.
