Even IF you consider the 1125R better than any Aprilia, it won't likely be for long. http://www.gizmag.com/go/8129/ |

I own an 06 ULY and an 04 Tuono....If the fuel injection on the Buell was only as good is what is on the Aprilia...and from what I read the "early 1125R press bikes" had the typical FI glitches....The Tuono is absolutely perfect on the FI..If I had to bet...there will be the usual bitching about "surging", etc on the 1125R. We will see very soon.. |

I've always liked the Tuono. Yeah, Diablo1 I can see the logic in waiting for a history test. But I don't think it's mere bench racing to take bets right now as to its place among the 2 Italians. It would be a great thing for the 1125R to be THAT great. Positive thinking, that's all. |

I hate to say it but if you want a Rotax v-twin with more power than you can use 99% of the time and it is fully sorted out...go ride the Aprilia. Plus...you have a choice of Sport or Naked version...I know...I know...you want the latest and "greatest". I have to give Buell a lot of credit for jumping into the "fire". Good Luck....sincerely.... |

"If I had to bet...there will be the usual bitching about "surging", etc on the 1125R." Surging relates to a lean mixture. A lean mixture relates to EPA emission requirements. Lean mixture surging can be easily cured with a Power Commander. If you change your exhaust (very common), you will need a PC anyway. Life is good! Dave Bradenton Florida |

"I'm not a spec sheet racer but you have to admit that the specs for the 1125R are at least enough to make the most hardened Buell hater raise an eyebrow in surprise." Have you seen the Specs on the Road King, or almost any other Harleys? I love to see those guys at bike meets where they have mobile Dynos. They brag that their bikes are making 150 HP, but when they get on the Dyno, it's more like 72 HP! |

Since I was not riding Wednesday at Willow, I spent my time getting nosy and into everything about the 1125 while everyone else concentrated on their riding. I watched and talked to every rider I could, with a keen interest in what the non-Buell owners had to say about the bike. It was like a broken record, first words were always "Awesome Bike!". I specifically asked questions of all about heat, vibration, power curve, handling, ergos, surging, etc. With the exception of the #1 bike NO one had ANY gripes about the bikes at all! True some were not fond of sportbike ergos but even they said that for a sportbike the 1125 had nice ergos. It was prolly a bad day weather wise to test foot roasting and no one had any heat problems. After the runs I often walked up and ran my bare hands all over the bikes to see what was hot. Even put my hands on the pegs to feel where heat may radiate from. Not the engine and not the muffler and just a little from the rear pipe. In fact I could always lay my bare hands on the clutch case next to the right peg! Not scientific I know and maybe the cool, breezy conditions masked any problem. No one said they had surging and I asked. Btw the Tuono rider there was unsure of the 1125 before riding it. After riding it he went into some detail on a number of areas where he thought the 1125 was noticeably superior. Better handling, more and smoother power, and smoother drive train were the most noticeable. He only wished for more upright ergos, ie an S model. |

Bear, good report. The bike seems to be getting amazing responses from folks who have never ridden Buells. I think this bike may see and influx of new riders in the same way the Ulysses has. . . Buell set out to expand the range and it seems to be working nicely. You're making me want to ride one of these ! |

You've got a good point . . . everyone I have visited with seems infected with the "ohmygosh" virus! I have a sneakin' suspicion this is going to be an elegant motorcycle that is going to rechart Buells course. |

No Power Commander needed on the Aprilia...change Muffler..pop in the "race chip"..(supplied by Aprilia). This of course is used for "closed course conditions only"...as we all know and abide by....sure.... |

Not that you said it Adrian... but I don't think anyone here is specifically saying that the aprilia "sucks". It's hard to buy a bad bike these days. It just seems so far that the 1125R is superior. I'm sure they're close enough that it's still all about the rider though. |

Even IF you consider the 1125R better than any Aprilia, it won't likely be for long. Your point is moot. Comparing the 1125R to ANY four cylinder bike is an unfair comparison. Apples to apples, oranges to oranges. There is a minimum of a 39 hp difference there according to that article. Besides which, that is still a prototype engine. The 1125R will be entering production very soon. |

Comparing the 1125R to ANY four cylinder bike is an unfair comparison. I couldn't disagree more. If Buell wants to compete in the big leagues then it is power/weight/size that matter. If they do not want to be compared to other engine configurations, stick with the lump. Ducatis and Aprilias are compared to four cylinder literbikes in every comparo and expected to compete. Buell will have to do the same. |

By the way, We all know that the power deliver of a twin is often favored over HP numbers of a four-in-line. The motorcycles as a whole are measured on the basis of performance achievable with that machine compared to others. Sometimes lower power bikes win shootouts due to either power delivery or handling. Go Buell! |

Seems like EVERYBODY is following Buell's lead . . . I've been waiting for a new camera to be released and all the reviews have this disclaimer:
quote:Preview based on a pre-production Nikon D3
Of course, like the Buell, they are available in November!

If they do not want to be compared to other engine configurations, stick with the lump. Regardless, that V4 engine has been purposely designed for racing from what I understand. The Helicon was not. |

Scraejtp, the Aprillia 180HP to 220HP. Is that much like the 180HP that Ducati was bragging about for the 1098 prior to release? |

Hope Buell doesn't start trying to make S models out of this (yet) - stay focused on the purpose and intent of the 1125r. Having said that, I know the market will decide if the demand is high enough. Wonder if all the first year out, 1125r enthusuasts are going to get screwed like 2003 XB9 owners who found out later in the year there was a bigger and badder version coming out (XB12). For now...Buell beats Aprilia. Ohlins and other such niceties aside... |

>>>going to get screwed like 2003 XB9 Huh? I just bought my 8th laptop. Wanna make a few calls for me? Also Ford screwed me when I just replaced my F-150. Imagine how those of us who bought Buells in the 1980's feel . . . . I am soooooooo pissed! |

I think my XB9R comment has been misunderstood... no I have offers for cheap palm pilots and opened the discussion about cameras... Let me explain... I bought a 2003 XB9R... not knowing that an XB12 was just around the corner. Mumm was the word at the dealer. Had I known, I would have waiting for more power and thicker fork tubes. Having said this, I have NO COMPLAINT about the bike itself. It is exactly what was advertised. It now has 23k miles and I also use it as a track/practice bike. Of the several bikes I own, It is my most fun bike. I have money down on the 1125R...waiting impatiently for mine to arrive at the dealer. My hope is that the bike bike is well sorted out and there will NOT be an improved "1200r" in 2009... |
