Before I start, I know someone will say "We are limited to our responses and cannot talk about future products" so I will make a suggestion. Has Buell thought about marketing a "step-up" program for those people interested in the 1125r? Many dealers may have current product to sell, and some first time "buyers" might be shocked to find out the insurance rates on the new bike. Allow these "newbies" to be introduced into the legacy and heart of Buell by helping get a bike under their feet (while helping Dealers get rid of current stock), but not run head first into a wall at 150 mph on the 1125r. The biggest craze will be the 1125r, and the next biggest thing to follow will be the insurance hikes when the younger kids pick these up and slam them into objects. Maybe offer a program through Sentry that will give them an insurance break on the 1125r if they buy a lessor bike and have no insurance claims for a few years...... just a few thoughts!! |

Buell already worked with Sentry to provide a better "crashable" bike to give the owner cheaper insurance. And, If the Insurance is too much and they need to "work up" to better insurance rates, there is always the Blast. |

True, but not many 20 something kids want a blast when they can go buy a 500 ninja or something of the likes. IF they have an incentive to buy the blast though, that's a whole different ball game. Buell and Harley BOTH are trying to market to a younger demographic, and it's sad but true.... today's kids are looking for who's going to bend over and give them the most..... I agree that Buell has done an excellent job working with Sentry... hats off to Buell and Sentry! |

Most young people don't want a Buell. They want a Hondakawayammasuzki because that's what they see the guys winning races riding. When you are young, impressionable, and stupid...you only care about the stat sheets and how "cool" you look at the local bike night leaning against your race replica. Most young people dont want a Buell because they have never had the performance or the "racing look" of the jap bikes...... I dont know what the 1125R sounds like, but I bet if it has a nice meaty tone to it many young guys will look long and hard at it. The reality is that if Buell AND Harley plan to survive, they must start marketing to the younger generation. Working at a dealership, I get to see first hand all the promotions going on and I think Buell and Harley both realize this. I hope the 1125R gets the credit it deserves.... AND the support to push this bike into the sportbike scene. |
