Rather than hijack threads, I might as well start my own. It's an 85 Suzuki SP600 Enduro. Got it with 14k miles on it for $500 beans. Seems it has been sitting for 10+ years.
The good: It runs and goes down the road. All the lights are there, and work. Street legal title. For some reason there is not a scratch on the rims. Looks like a BEAST! The bad: Needs a complete tear down. Suspension is shot, but needs to be re-valved and sprung to my weight anyhow. Engine needs to be gone through. Wiring seems OK, but we'll see. I may just get a new harness, and eliminate all the hooplah for the dash. The ugly: All the hoses are dry and failing. The gaskets are dry and not holding back any fluids. Oil in.....start......oil starts coming out. The gas tank looks like it was painted with a gym shoe. Everything is covered in barn dust, but it's all there. Right down to the heat shields on the original exhaust. Here at the shop, we just got some powdercoat back that looks Nuclear Blue. The fella did a great job. This bike may just end up being nuke blue and flat black. It'll be stripped down to bare essentials. Lowered a couple inches from present form. 17in hoop on the front. New (used) plastics so I can keep the stock pieces stock. Maybe a yellow frame with black plastics...... Thats just the beginning. |

Just got a set of 03 Yamaha YZ250f trees and forks for it for $40. These babies have 11.8in. of travel. Opens up my options for a 320mm front brake, and a cheaper 17" front wheel. This build will be a honker motard. |

Looks fun! Wonder if there are different tanks around you could use... something a little less big and scrunched up looking. With that smaller front wheel, the tank is becoming the dominant visual part of the bike. Maybe once the plastics are on it will balance out.... |

That tank holds 5.5 US gallons!!!!!!! Goes on reserve at about 3/4 gallon left. It actually evens out a bit with the front fender in place. Also, thats the 21in dirt wheel. The diameter is within 1/4 in of a 17in tire I have laying around, so I used it to check suspension sag. That wheel will be relaced to a 17. Just got ASV levers, and a 320mm EBC supermoto front brake for it. The frame is going to be Cat yellow, and the rest will be carbon fiber and black. Some polished aluminum here and there. Doing a leakdown test today, and it's coming apart for paint and suspension rebuild. |

Leakdown shows 11% loss. Thats AFTER I adjusted the valves. Not bad for 14xxx miles. Just pulled it apart for paint. The motor weighs 88 lbs. Just pick it up, and walk away. |

DANG spoke wheels cost a lot! Project on hold to re-supplement the funds. Getting a bunch of little things done. |

Gunut: You're right about wheels. I just had Buchanan's lace me up a 19" front on my hub. About $500 shipped back to me. Nice stuff, though. I now have a surplus 17" front, also by Buchanan's, on an XR600 front hub. It's a black anodized Sun rim with stainless spokes. Got any use for it? rt |

I have a KLR-250 front wheel (I think) laying around as well. If that helps you, it's yours for shipping costs. |

Much appreciated fellas. I have my required front hub, and I am going to need to re-lace the new front hoop to it. Unfortunately, the spoke angles (and amount of spokes) is different between the Honda and Yamaha. I already have my 320mm front rotor and required accessories to go with the YZ hub, axle, brake, and forks. I'm going to build a truing stand and learn to lace up the wheels. I have yet to determine the rear wheel, as the swing arm is getting changed to an aluminum one. Brand has yet to be determined. Road_thing: love that Honda in the other thread. |

Sounds like a fun project! Buchanan's can make spokes if you need new ones. Here's a link I found on the Houston BMOA website: Wheel Lacing Keep us posted! rt |

Got a 98 DR650 swing arm (aluminum), a rebuildable shock, linkage, and (get this), an SP skid plate and HEADER (obsolete part) on the way from CA for $0! The nice fella wouldn't even take the cost of shipping the 40# box. I owe him some machine time to say the least. Now to hunt down a DR650 17" rear wheel, or a hub to lace it to. I think my new weight goal is going to be 250#. With oil, without fuel. |

Phew! A lot going on here. Had to shave .240 off of each side of the DR swinger. The OD of the pivot bearings are the same, so getting it mounted wasn't a big deal. Heres how it sits right now. The DR swinger is 1" longer than the SP, and the linkage mount point behind the motor needs to be fabbed. So does the upper shock mount. It's kinda hangin' there right now. This thing is gonna be massive. I'm looking at a 35-36" seat height, unladen (good thing I'm tall). Thats a 21" front hoop for size comparison. The DR swing arm saves 8lbs over the SP swing arm. Not including the shock and rear wheel/brake assy for either bike, just the darn swing arm. Shootin for 250# without fuel. |

Back on track here. Finally getting the funds to finish this thing. It is probably going to use an XB sTT shock for the rear suspension. Still up in the air on that. I really have a thing for that DR shock due to the adjustable height. Just another variable in fine tuning the suspension. I'll be pulling the front wheel to change the hoop soon. Going to polish the hub, and maybe have it anodized. Same for the rear. WE WE WEEEEEEEEE. Chillin in the quiet area........... |

Got the shock bung welded to the swing arm. I also found a seat/foam repair dood near me that has very reasonable rates for custom cutting seat foam, new vinyl, and all that good stuff. The frame is going to be Cat yellow, and the vinyl guy has "Cheddar" colored vinyl in stock. Maybe cheddar, (lol) and faux alligator, or faux carbon fiber for the seat. I also have to call today and find out where my tires are. Contiforce Supermoto tires. It's going to use the Buell sTT rear shock. Total weight savings so far is 42 lbs. Stock weight is 330. I'm hoping for 250 lbs, but that may be a little TOO hopeful. Starting the upper shock mount today. |

Some ASV levers. EBC 320mm rotor. Yellow chain. Front brake is going to be a caliper off of Boney95's KTM SD. Brembo monoblock I believe. Just have to get that and fab up a caliper relocating bracket. |
