My youngest is trying to convince me that she needs an upgrade from her 250 nighthawk (probably true). She is starting to shop for something either bigger or faster, or more sporty in any case. This would be an option if available, but as it is, she is dragging me to look at CBR's, Ninjas, etc. It is a sharp looking bike, isn't it? |

Another article that says the production model is due to launch this November: http://www.motoroids.com/news/hero-hx250r-launch-h appen-november/ A couple of graphic comparisons with the competition (some of these aren't available in the US):

What a TIGHT looking bike. If the quality of this machine is on par I believe they will sell very well. Any info on the engine design? |

^ Somewhere I've seen it posted that the engine is an actual EBR design. ~31 crankshaft HP @ 9000 RPM; ~19 ft-lb torque. DOHC, water cooled 250cc, 6 spd transmission. The bike weighs only 306 lbs. |

For comparison, my 1978 Kawasaki KZ-400 (a 400cc parallel twin) made about 35 HP at 9500 RPM. Well, mine doesn't make 35 HP now, but it probably did when it was new, and it probably will again after I go home and fish the carbs out of the trash can I pitched them into last night after a minor temper tantrum after removing them for the 9th time. I think I spit on them at some point also, and probably would have peed on them if I wasn't in a residential neighborhood. |

I'd be surprised if that bike ever sees American shores . . . for the same reason that the KTM RC200 (which I think is awesome) never has. Are the Honda. Yamaha and Kawasaki 250's being sold in the USA? I think it'd be an awesome market but . . . traditionally . . . we are a "bigger is better" mindset with our wallets. |

Honda introduced the CBR250 a few years ago, but upgraded it to a 300 last year. Kawasaki made the Ninja 250 until recently when it was also upgraded to a 300. Both of these bikes apparently sell really well to beginning riders. If Hero/EBR labeled this bike "EBR" or "designed by EBR", and maybe enlarged the engine to 300cc, I think they'd sell like hotcakes. |

And truth be told, I think Americans got it right on this one. Unless you live and move exclusively within a congested city, it seems silly to go to all of the trouble of building a perfectly good parallel twin and limiting it to 250cc's. Might as well make it a 400 so it can go on the interstate. About the same amount of raw materials, similar economy in day to day driving, probably more durable as well. Still nice and light and manageable by riders of all skill levels. |

The bike simply wasn't designed for America. But . . in MOST parts of the world 2-wheel transpiration is al altogether different animal . . it's transpiration, not recreation, and the bike should be a home run. |

By the way . . . EBR is designing a LOT (for those of you wondering what they are doing) of other stuff that is only distantly related to anything we've ever seen and not destined for American shores. They literally . . . are an Engineering firm with a motorcycle sideline. That makes the business model work. Don't believe me? . . ride over here on your Motus and we'll discuss it. |

This would be a great bike for the Ultralight class in CCS racing. There is a fairly decent group of people racing what has become a 250cc class. Almost exclusively the Kawasaki 250. Would be fun to have a different scoot in that class. |

This would be a great bike for the Ultralight class in CCS racing. one of the first things I thought about. It would be "cheap" to race compared to 600cc and larger bikes. cheap to race... HA HA... as if anything is cheap to race |

If you look close you can see that the exhaust is conceptually the same as the RX/RS - Mostly underslung with a secondary silencer. |

"ride over here on your Motus and we'll discuss it." I wish I could. The sound of that pushrod V4 on youtube makes my spine tingle. I too have come to doubt it will happen. Even if if did, the production numbers would keep it too rarified for my beer budget. (1190/TX...1190/TX...1190/TX...) |

I wonder if this diagram had anything to do with the Other 250s getting up-displaced to 300cc? I know this bike is not primarily for the US market but there will all sways be the beginner or salesman touting the bigger is better routine. |

I doubt it. I'd pin it on Kawasaki one-upping the Honda as Honda recently re-entered the US market with a 250 sportbike, and Honda responding in kind... |

I'd rework the headlight to be more M2 like, but other than that I like it. Wonder what the US price would be. |

Wonder what the US price would be. 4 LAKH = 400,000 Rupees, which at current rates equals $6,463.86 US. Maybe $8,000 US after going through EPA and DOT certifications and import duties? |
