I'm not sure how to view this for EBR. On one hand good in the sense that there could be collaboration and bad that there could be a lessening of that in the future with their new acquisition. |

Gotta look at the entire car . . . describing a single bolt doesn't paint the picture. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india- business/How-Honda-plans-to-conquer-India-the-worl ds-largest-two-wheeler-market/articleshow/40672441 .cms?intenttarget=no&utm_source=TOI_AShow_OBWidget &utm_medium=Int_Ref&utm_campaign=TOI_AShow |

quote:"Near Varanasi and Jaunpur, the road conditions were so bad that I realized we needed to provide high quality rugged vehicles for such areas, which was also confirmed by more than two people sitting on the vehicles which were at times over-burdened by load. We also need bikes with better headlights," he says.
If he has been in this business that that market for that long, and he is just now figuring this out, then my money is on Hero. |

I'd put my money on HERO as well. I've met Pawan and several of his key execs who I stay in contact with. Not only do they have the "once slapped" by Honda motivation . . they are REALLY smart and have the fire in the belly. They also understand that while they do "rote" well they are not so good at "rogue" and have sought out and forged an association with EBR and a group of young, very talented and driven talent (known to insiders as ELVES) to do the dirty work. Think for a moment . . . . . HERO's manufacturing . . knowledge of the market place, resources . . . Erik Buell's "we can do that" vision of seemingly impossible technical undertakings and Dave G and Dave U, and a group of seasoned Elves, greasing logistical wheels. Honda needs to be respected and revered . . but I'd put my money on HERO. |

"Gotta look at the entire car . . . describing a single bolt doesn't paint the picture" Agreed. You need a dedicated team to research/develop/define the “what’s possible” and a separate team to take those possibilities and turn them into a function design. Add a third team to figure out the manufacturing process so you can churn out a quality product efficiently. Just not enough hours in the day for one team to do it alone. So I see this an opportunity for Erik to become more creative as he’ll have more canvas to work with. EPA legal direct injected 2 stroke anyone? |

I see it as we need some one to read these technical instructions from the Elves here in India! |

The Indian Engineers are extremely capable, competent, motivated and generally have about as good a command of the language, written and spoken, as you and I. Nope . . .it's a much bigger team. Kind keep waiting for someone to ask why it takes 197 folks to produce less than 400 EBR bikes a year. :-) Watch closely. |
