VERY interesting. Maybe the air-cooled line isn't dead? |

Sport bikes, akin to sports cars for their speed and handling, are popular with younger riders say what?? |

VERY interesting. Maybe the air-cooled line isn't dead? One can only hope. More than likely though, they're supplying a lot of the machining for the engine internals for the 1125 to 1190 conversion. Just a guess though, I don't know for sure. |

Young being 80 and under. I'd like to see another air-cooled bike, myself. |

EB wanted a water cooled engine a long time ago, but the design exploded into a cruiser engine, and he had to make do with the XB engine. If the engine he wanted had been available, I'm fairly certain the XB models would not have been air cooled, and the air heads would have died with the tubers. Just my opinion. I'm probably wrong. Flame on. |

Water cooling dampens noise, injection improves emissions. Going with the flow. It is a new millennium, after all. The American motorcycle industry grows up, lead by innovators. |

I like air-cooled. Bring back an air-cooler! Best engine for a street bike, period. |

No reason we can't have both. Triumph, Ducati, and BMW all do. The S&S X-wedge might be an excellent candidate for an Erik Buell Racing air-cooled plant: IIRC, they said they're working on a unitary (engine/transmission) version of this which would be perfect. |

That motor is very big and heavy... neat ideas, but very big. |

Our member JeffB, S&S engineer, has a passion for Buells. He'll do right by Erik. |

A "limited edition exotic" Buell with an light weight alloy S&S SB100 engine. Yes, please. |

I'm guessing it's a relatively simple matter of S & S making the engine components used to turn the 1125R engine into the 1190RR/RS, but it seems like there could potentially be some good synergy between the companies. S & S, arguably more so than any other company, knows a thing or two about making American motorcycles go fast(er). Their heritage, racing experience, engineering expertise, connections in the US motorcycle market and capital could all be useful to Erik Buell Racing while Erik Buell Racing brings something to the table that never could have even been imagined 5 years ago - an American Superbike. Even if S & S is nothing more than a component supplier at this point, I could imagine good things in the future. I suspect, if anything, that S & S would be more interested in Erik's help in developing an S & S power cruiser around their air cooled (or water-cooled) engine than Erik would be in using the air-cooled engine, but, in any case, a relationship between S & S and Erik Buell Racing could lead to some very interesting future possibilities. |

Anybody still have a link to the first thread about when HD cut Buell loose on October 15, 2009? I said something . . . about 18 hours before the word got out that . . . if I could find it . . well, I'd repeat it now. It's truer now than it was then.

Good for Erik! I've been following the progress since the break up with HD. I'd be nice if he could supply some parts for us XB guys later too. |
