Harley-Davidson Begins Layoffs Manufacturing.Net - July 10, 2008 YORK, Pa. (AP) -- Harley-Davidson Inc. is laying off workers at its plant in York County. Harley spokesman Bob Klein says the plant has begun layoffs as part of a plan to cut about 730 workers companywide. Nearly 300 workers are scheduled to be cut from the plant in Springettsbury Township. The layoffs will continue in stages throughout the summer. Business representative Tom Boger of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 says the union will check to make sure workers are laid off according to seniority. The Manufacturers' Association of South Central Pennsylvania plans a worker-placement effort for the laid-off Harley employees ------------------------- I spoke with a York factory employee today and he said that in a few years you won't even recognize Harley due to the number of Mexican and Chinese parts being used. I forgot to mention that the workforce does not believe that H-D will remain in PA for much longer despite the contract. I'm not a Harley guy but it's sad to see what's happening to Harley once the new CEO took over. (Message edited by SteveFord on June 03, 2010) (Message edited by SteveFord on June 03, 2010) |

What is AMF in Chinese characters and maybe in Indian characters? That crap will go over really good with some of the hard core guys. Most of the lifestyle people won't care since all their clothing is already coming from China. |

The article is 2 years old. "Manufacturing.Net - July 10, 2008" Are they starting layoffs again? |

We were just in York this week and they are closing the current plant because they are moving to a new facility about a half mile away. |

up the hill is a half mile away? the will run out of the softail plant until 2014 when renovation is complete on the touring line. until then they will drop to only 2 shifts. the lay-off is the temps under the new labor contract with the union, they will return in 2 weeks for 2011 production. |

That I haven't heard. I was talking about an upcoming force reduction with a 9 month involuntary layoff with a severance package dangled in front of them. Or so I hear. |
