Although I was pretty irritated by the lame Cycle World coverage in the January issue - Peter Egan makes up for it a bit in his column in the Feb issue. It's not just about Buell, but the closure is featured heavily in his article. He's always been my favorite columnist anyway - his thoughts seem to mirror my own much of the time - and when he said about Buell "I don't have a dime in that company - but its closing hit me very hard", well I can certainly relate... |

You know, I've been reading CW for years. I was always surprised how little Egan mentioned Buell over the years, seeing as how Egan lives in Wisconsin. I mean, Egan bought a Sportster XLCR - twice! He's always buying different bikes - yet he never mentioned Buell. I always wondered about that. As far as CW coverage of Buell's demise - I guess with CW dumping Edwards as EIC at that time, they were a bit distracted. |

Does anyone know the reason for Edwards departure from Cycle World? It was a total surprise to me! |

Edwards is an OK guy, perhaps, but mebbe a little stodgy & gray for today's [much younger] M/C crowd....? (Message edited by firstbuell on January 05, 2010) |

Just read article....couple of lines struck Me also "Ever since I rode our first BUELL ULYSSES test bike on a trip through Virginia a few years back, I've had it in my mind to buy one eventually. Guess I should have acted on these opinions earlier. Late again. In any case, these are strange and interesting times- a little too interesting for some." As a former CHEEZEHEAD, who purchased his 1st new BMW from MISCHLERS', stuff happens. I stopped test riding Bikes; as I always seemed to want the model ridden- got my BLAST! 5-6yrs. after that test ride. Machine is properly named. So many motos', so little time. Cold as heck around here, think I'll ride to woik tomorrow |

I commented on that article by Egan & on the bottom of page 2 in the thread noted he should have owned a Buell! http://forums.cycleworld.com/showthread.php?t=2493 23 (Message edited by bsanorton on January 09, 2010) |

Peter Egan is one of my favorite column writers. I saw him and his wife Barb eating a pizza at R & R club in Union Grove one night. Great people. I have been reading "Leanings" for years. |

Peter Egan interviewed me for an article in Big Twin many years ago. He came to the York Plant to do a story on employees and their rides. I think that I was responsible for Peter changing his byline photo. I said he looked older in person… he still wrote a nice piece about me…. |

Err, he nick-named the Ulysses after that test ride; "Useless" was what he called it, so it's no surprise he never actually owned one. But you know, I find the BMWs he endears, to be useless IMHO.YMMV. |

FWIW, Came across a Facebook post from two days ago noting he bought one of the last Ulysses in Wisconsin... Based on my question it turns out Peter Egan does not surf any sites besides Craigslist and Ebay. That is respectable considering he is looking for bikes and parts. Still we need to get him on the web reading some blogs! Fri at 10:19pm John Adamo: Egan bought one of the last Buell Ulysses in Wisconsin. His wife made him do it he said. She was in the crowd nodding so I guess it's not just and excuse. He prints out his columns after each revision. He does not like to read on a computer screen. Maybe she'll make him go to homecoming? Or maybe Court could talk him into it? |
