Very cool video. Back to our roots, to see the S2 and the S1, my S1, as revolutionary as it was presented to the public at the time, especially in Cycle World, when Don Canet described riding the Lightning up Cali's Hwy 58 and describing the immense reserve of torque that allowed him to traverse the twisties in one gear, catching the higher performing {xxx} bike. Good sales pitch that got me thinking over the edge! |

Man that brings back memories . . . I'd love to get a DVD of that. Anybody still have their laminate envelope with the 12 packages that were delivered with all the first S-2s? |

Butch, I never get tired of watching that video. It is a little retro but I like it. I hope you are able to make it to Homecoming. I would love to see your S2-T in person. |

. . . you do know that the term BUELL RIDERS ADVENTURE GROUP was the product of the legal department when they saw this, right? Hasty changes were made. Ever wonder why such a high tech company has no e-mail addresses? And just what happened to the Buell manuals on CD? Wait? ? ? . . . that sounds like one liners, right? DAMN ! |

Thanks Court, you have forgotten more about Buell than I will ever know. I always wondered how BRAG came about. I did not get my first Buell until 97 (from Ratbuells dealership) and did not keep track of what was going on with Buell besides the recalls because I was overseas most of the time until 2001 when I located to Colorado. When 9/11 happened my activities were put on hold for another two years until I retired in 03. Many of those years I did not have Internet but I remember surfing in 1997 with dialup and checking out the Buell web site and of course downloaded the manual for my 97 S1. I did my Grad work without the Internet. Today I could not imagine doing that. Any forward thinking company should be interactive on the Internet like Buell was for a couple of hours. As a matter of fact the only S2s I ever saw were pictures and did not see one in real life until I bought my first one. So, the point being, I have owned Buells since 1997 but never really knew what was going on until 2003 and did not sign on the BadWeb until 2006. I missed a lot. I plan to make up for that. |

>>>>like Buell was for a couple of hours. Actually the better part of two full days . . . the HD legal department is still recovering from the entire "close to the customer" concept. . . Imagine . . . "cue foggy waving cloud background" . . .
- Having 18 customers in various countries each year who are making monthly "how'd you ride, where'd you ride and what happened" reports to the Elves.
- Having 6 customers each year who come to the factory twice a year (one meeting would be during Homecoming) to provide input on experience, parts and accessories and "issues".
- Buell Regional Owner Advocates - to coordinate and support owner events.
- An "Engineering Comments and Concerns Line" - not for bitching or problems, those would HAVE to stay with Customer Service, but for comments and idea.
- Online parts locating and availability.
- Ditto a "Comments@Buell.Com"
- "AskErik@Buell.Com"
- Interactive manuals - with monthly "BOK of what we now know" updates to reflect corrections and superseded numbering.
- "BUELL GOLD" Service - 24/7 tech support for Buell Dealer Techs.
- "My V.I.N." - enter and learn all about your bike
Obviously you'd have to "join" by paying a small annual fee which would entail having you agree that this is "informational" and "for entertainment only" language. If, for instance, you submitted your idea for the 3 pronged geeazalotor you'd have signed a waiver that you waived any claim, for anything, in perpetuity. There are some hurdles but this stuff is happening now . . . Buell was onto it 14 years ago" . . . I have the video (albeit VHS) Yeah . . . I can dream. Did you know that Buell had developed a "Build Your Own" 10 years before ANY automobile company . . . HD about crapped. |

Buell Regional Owner Advocates - to coordinate and support owner events. This is the one I like the best. Of course that would require Buell Groups NOT to depend a dealership like BRAG was. Having owned Harleys for a while and not finding any benefit from HOG membership I hated the BRAG concept. I got a great story to tell you about how an enthusiastic Buell rider blew into town and wanted to get a BRAG going. It died but not without bad blood between everyone involved ending in the dealer refusing to do any warranty work on her and everyone else's Buells. Illegal as hell. Of course everything on that list was revolutionary. I knew about the "Build Your Own" program and I can tell you when I first found out about it. Of course I would have wanted purple wheels and I heard those were hard to come by LOL. (Sorry Mr. Gess but I loved you story) Can I ask if the folders contained the picture in the middle? Something like that, depending on legalities, should be on the banner for next years S2 Gathering. Frank |

Frank, The picture in the middle is the folder, and the items surrounding the folder are the "12 packages". You guys had to make me dig mine out, didn't you? My letter is dated March 27, 1996 and it all is safely retained in the original padded envelope. I guess I should be chastised as I never sent a one of them in, 1313 |
